I'm glad the car has been fixed so quickly, Florence.

Have a lovely time!

My car was due to go for new brake discs and pads today.
However, the garage phoned yesterday and said they had "a window", and would it be OK if they came to collect the car early.
So they collected it at 1pm yesterday, and brought it back about 5.30pm.
I'm impressed and grateful!

Might not be so impressed when I receive the bill, which they will email to me!

It's good to know your son is doing well, Joan, and that you are able to enjoy the garden in this lovely weather.
A bit of sunshine just lifts the spirits so much!

Good afternoon everyone.
I am pleased to hear that your son is on the mend Joan
I hope that your flight goes with no problems Florence.
I went to London on Saturday morning with my daughter and Esme. Going down was a bit of a nightmare because we hadn’t gone very far before Esme was howling about her tummy hurting. I am sure that she gets car sick because she watches her iPad. We stopped and gave her a dose of the medicine the hospital provides for her stomach migraines. That did the trick, so after a short break we were able to set off again with the iPad banned. We sang along to children’s songs on the radio instead. We did a very long stop half way down and she was fine after that. We stayed in a Premier Inn near Heathrow over night , Esme loves staying in hotels, so that was fine. On Sunday we went to a 21st birthday party which started at lunchtime, as it was a lovely day, it was held in the garden. All of Esme’s old school friends were there long with the ‘online’ friends who we see every Saturday morning in her special needs music class. They had hired the music teacher to play, so we had a great time
We left at 4 pm before it had finished because we had a four hour drive back. I was dreading that, but it went very well.

Not much else to report apart from OH having one of his wisdom teeth out this afternoon. He isn’t bothered by it, so I think that it can’t have had very deep roots. It was the same when he had another one taken out a couple of months ago.

It has been a glob day here and will be tomorrow before it all goes downhill for the weekend, hardly surprising as it is a bank holiday
I ho-e that everyone else is enjoying the sun as well

Another nice day so have been outside in the garden (not gardening ) I just decided to tidy up the shed and give the patio slabs a good clean also cleaned the wheelie bins so all is tidy for a while. Most of the mess in the shed were things belonging to OH so that has now been moved to his big shed at the end of the garden. I don't go in there as I would want to throw all his junk away. Haha.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 May 2026 15:42

We had two sheds when we moved her Ginnie, but we gave them away. We have a large double garage with plenty of storage space in it, especially as we have gone down to one car. OH is good about clutter as well, plus he is very tidy, We bought some plants yesterday, so I potted up my two hanging baskets ant three wall baskets, but I will keep them in the greenhouse for a while as the weather is supposed to be really bad tomorrow

Good afternoon. It was a pleasant sunny morning here but has clouded over now. I am really hoping for some rain as the garden is so dry. it is still 17 degrees so not really cold but feels colder than it should because it is so dull.
I have not done a lot today, I had two busy quite active days yesterday and Thursday so am taking it a bit easy and just doing some admin jobs. and have just had the Tesco delivery so have unpacked all that and put it away so I think a cup of tea is due now.

Hi girls.
I had a tidy up in the shed recently, filled a black bin bag,.I should have filled another bag with some "fancy" plant holders but I didn't, I have accumilated quite a few of those wee seasonal / figurine ones that originally came will very small plants in them.
They soon become obsolete when the plants outgrow them but too nice just to throw away !

Not the best of days weatherwise today, dull & breezy, so not been outside, needing some rain to re-fill the water bowie, it's too far to keep filling up the watering can from the kitchen tap.

Joan.

It has been raining here, not heavy but steadily for twenty minutes now so hopefully that will help the garden a bit.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 3 May 2026 09:01

Good morning from rainy Yorkshire. I think that it has been raining overnight and it is coming down steadily now with no signs of it stopping. According to the forecast, it is going to rain all day which I don’t mind as the garden really needs it. Thankfully, it is going to be dry tomorrow because I am taking Esme to Lightwater Valley

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 5 May 2026 13:15

I hope that everyone enjoyed the bank holiday weekend. Sunday was awful here, it rained all day. We all went to an authentic sushi restaurant in Harrogate at lunchtime. I am not keen on sushi, but they had very nice rice and noodle dishes as well.
Yesterday I took Esme to Lightwater Valley, they had erected a maypole and did three sessions during the day where they danced with the children. Esme absolutely loved it and did all three. Luckily the weather was good for being outdoors.
It is very chilly today, OH is painting our sons’ garden fences, so I dropped him off and drove to Tescos. It is a bit of a long way, but I go occasionally as they are the only place where I can buy the pitted prunes in juice which OH likes and the bean salad in vinaigrette which I like. I buy lots of tins, so they last a long time.

PM from Florence:

Overall a nice break and good weather.
Internet at hotel pretty non existent so hope you receive this and hence not been on the boards.

Say hi to all and will be back soon.

AnninGlos Report 7 May 2026 07:53

thanks for passing on the message from Florence AG. It is always frustrating when Wifi in hotels is bad, so inconvenient nowadays.

Linda sounds as if Esme had a great bank holiday monday, pleased that it stayed dry for you. Son is lucky to have his Dad to paint his fence, a back breaking job.

Good afternoon to all.
A really lovely warm, calm sunny day here so naturally I have been outside pottering about the garden.

Not done very much other than weed killing just spot weeding those weeds that pop up here & there, I don't mind doing it but I can't get down very low so I have to be careful with it & they spray bottles are not comfy to use. the rough edges of the trigger dig into the fingers.

Had the company of a Hare in the garden the other day, lol, what a size,it was, nice to see him but eventually he noticed me & ran off & I was able to breathe & move once again, lol..

My youngest daughter is at the hospital today, she has got an eye problem, some bleeding into the back of the Retina & has to have the first of 3 injections into the eye today ! Doesn't sound very pleasant does it.
Something else to worry about !

Anyway, I hope all is well with you all & have got some nice weather.

Joan.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 May 2026 11:10

You are lucky to have the nice weather Joan, it has been cold for the last couple of days and it is raining today. This afternoon is Eve’s speech day, they are having Kelvin Fletcher as the guest speaker. There is lots of music and dance interspersing the presentations, so it is usually good. Afterwards they have a posh picnic in a large marquee. The only problem is that it is a long walk from the car park to the far side of the school where the large hall is, so our smart clothes are going to get very wet :-(

I hope that your daughter will be OK Joan, these days they are very clever at using a laser to stop bleeds, so fingers crossed all will be well .

Hello Linda.
Another sunny day but a bit wishy washy, not sure on the temp as I haven't been outside but inside I was feeling a bit chilly & had to use a blanket over my legs when sitting.

I think it may have rained at some point through the night but not very much, the flagstones were not soaking.

My daughter said the injection into her eye wasn't as bad as she was expecting, though it felt achey & scratchy as the numbness started to wear off, she has to have 2 more over the next 2 weeks.

I hope you have a nice day out despite the rain !

Joan.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 May 2026 18:36

Oops sorry, I missed the point about the injections. My mum used to have one every month because of her Macular degeneration, but she said they weren’t too bad.

The speech day was very good, but it was chilly in the large marquee, so we are glad to be home with the heating on

I thought that I had better rescue the thread as no one has posted for a while. It is very cold here, but sunny at the same time. We have had a lot of rain over the last few days which is good for the garden I suppose. I can’t believe that it is the middle of May though as it seems like early spring

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 May 2026 11:43

Very cold here, too, Linda.
I have the heating on again, and am wearing an extra jumper in the house - and my padded winter coat when I go out!

But all the spring flowers are looking lovely - azalea, bluebells, clematis, etc.

Amokavid Report 13 May 2026 11:50

Hi Linda.
Nothing going on in my life at the moment,so nothing really to talk about.
The weather has changed over the past couple of days, sunny ish but really cold wind, & a little rain so haven't been in the garden.

I have been entertained by a Hare that appears to have taken up residence in my garden ! The other evening when I was about to close the curtains I spotted it again but this time it had a young one in it's mouth, it hid the baby in the flower bed then after a few minutes it left the garden & went into the field.

I haven't seen it since but I did spot the baby hopping around on Monday for a few minutes then back into the border out of sight.
Not sure if I should be happy to have them so close but sometimes watching the wildlife it better than watching the telly !

Joan.

AnninGlos Report 13 May 2026 12:16

Good afternoon all. Joan how lovely to be able to watch a hare and her baby. Your garden must feel safe to her to leave baby there. I expect it had a lecture before she hopped off for food, to stay exactly where she put it :-D

It is very windy here which is not good for all the climbing roses. I have dead headed a lot to try and reduce the weight but the branches are still whipping around. It is 12 degrees but feels colder. Unfortunately no rain at all for ages and it is badly needed. I will probably have to water the pots later today as with no rain and a drying wind they will need it.
