Enjoy the sunshine and the return of your family, Florence!

It's a different story here, 200 miles south of you. Not particularly cold, and no wind - but dark clouds and torrential rain! It was the same most of yesterday.
The ground is absolutely water-logged, with the melted snow, and then rain ever since.

A day for indoors - but there's plenty to do!

Good morning all

Well we have sunshine, no wind and no rain! So different from yesterday.

Plenty chores to do today and home alone with my poochie as daughter went off to town and partner back tonight about 8 and then there will be plenty of noise, washing and stories no doubt, cant wait.

So off to see if the washing has finished and then to hoover round.

Have a good day everyone

yesterday was very dark, gloomy and drizzly although not too wet. This morning it was a hard air frost but the paths were not icy when I went out at 11 o'clock to the hairdressers because the sun was shining. It was quite a pleasant walk, a bit chilly but with some faint heat from the sun.

Morning all

Horrid rainy cold here and still windy.

I have Tesco coming in the next hour so thats another job putting it all away.

Joan, thats a worry for your daughter. There are not many places here for private rent either as many landlords are selling the property rather than rent out due to all the new legislations that came out last year!

Hope they find somewhere soon.

Partner is coming back home tomorrow after a week on the mainland. Its been very quiet here without him!

Hope everyone looking in is keeping well today

Good afternoon, I hope that everyone is well. It is a horrible drizzly day here. I went to the supermarket this morning and it was incredibly dark when I came out. It is a bit brighter now, I am just about to go out to help at the Memory Cafe. We are having some sort of music quiz this afternoon, so I hope that there is a reasonable turnout

Hi.
Linda I am hoping the 3rd thing is a big win on the lottery, my daughter desperately needs to move house, however there are no rented properties in our area, not an easy option raising the deposit to buy a house, hence my doing a lottery ticket every week.
Daughter having issues with the farmer landlord & it's a worry as to were it will end !

Paying a high rent means no chance to save a deposit.

Things come in three’s Joan, so I wonder what your third god thing will be.
It rained this morning, so all the snow has gone now. It is very dark though, I thought that it was much later than it actually is

Our snow and ice have disappeared magically overnight, thanks to higher temperatures and heavy rain.

Last night everything was still white. This morning we're back to brown and green.
Thank goodness!

New washing machine, and lottery win - your luck is turning, Joan!

hello.
I did put some things into the new washer yesterday Florence, all went well, nice to have itI was not doing too well washing smaller items by hand, but it was drying them that was ndifficult, no way to get wate out of them, hand wringing was painful !

Horrible day here today, It's been chucking it down for hours & we have high winds, not much daylight either.
I think the rain might have eased a bit but still windy, only thing good about it is that it is clearing the snow, still got some of the deep lots though, hoping the house road is clearing as I would like to get my delivery of oil as soon as possible.

i won £30 on the lottery yesterday, it will go towards the new washer or the oil, lol.

Afternoon all

Wet & windy here so def a day for indoors.

Stripped beds today, ironed a small basket and the last hour was tearing up the pages of a dozen work diaries to be shredded!!! What a job.

But the decluttering has to be done as I dont have a huge storage for all these old books etc. Still have some drawers to go through as well but maybe not today.

Hope you snow Linda doesnt get worse and keep you from travelling anywhere.

How is the new washer Joan? All working well I hope.

Hope everyone else looking in today is well and keeping warm

When I looked out of the window this morning, it was to see a good covering of snow, that is the first we have had. It is slushy on the road now, so I don’t think it will stay.all very odd as it wasn’t forecast.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 10 Jan 2026 18:59

That is good news Joan and with the thaw, hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

I haven’t been out today and have just been pottering around. My son came over for a meal last night, I made a very nice chicken curry with some mushroom rice. There was plenty of the rice left over, so I just added lots of frozen seafood mix to it and turned it into a risotto, so that was an easy dinner to make.
There is nothing decent on TV tonight, so we will probably watch another of the Inspector Lynley mysteries.

Oh Joan that fab news and Im sure that has brightened up your day. Glad your snow is beginning to thaw too.

Been pouring hard here but windy as a gale coming tomorrow!

Just making a cheese and potato pie for myself and daughter, cant wait its sooo tasty.

Hope everyone looking in is well and keeping warm today.

Ooo, it's exciting !
New washer being installed, just to pay for the machine now, can't wait to get the washing done.

A little "warmer" today, well enough to start a thaw, snow on the roof has gone, the drive & the path in front of the length of the house is also clear, but mucky!
Still lot's to shift elsewhere around the house but will take time.

Feeling a bit better today.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Joan.

I remember once, in a clothes shop, seeing a man sitting on the floor outside the female changing room, with several bags beside him, and a resigned expression on his face!

I hate going into town to have a browse and shop if OH is with me. Time constraints can mean I don’t get a chance once he has done his as either the parking ticket was about to go over into the next expensive slot or the bus was due - miss one and the next could be several hours later,

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 Jan 2026 15:12

I hope everyone else is OK. The storm seems to have passed us by, it was just a bit windy, but we haven’t had any snow. I was just talking to my sister in Shropshire and they have lots of snow.
As the weather wasn’t bad this morning, we decided to take the bus into Harrogate as OH wanted to buy some new slippers. He got some in M&S and we had lunch there as well. They had a really good sale on, so I tried a couple of jumpers on, but they were no good. I would have liked to have a good rummage, but having OH in tow is not conducive to shopping, so I gave up.
I am pleased that your water didn’t freeze completely Joan.
