The advice given above applies to England and Wales, and as you specify "decree nisi" I assume that' s where the divorce took place, although you haven't said so.

However, just in case it took place in Scotland (or for anyone's future reference) , divorces from May 1984 until 2021 are on ScotlandsPeople:
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

and you can order a certificate via that site - currently £12.
There's no such thing as a decree nisi in Scotland - just a decree of divorce once everything is settled.

If you google copy of decree nisi it will give you some information. Hope this helps :-)

A friend needs proof of his decree nisi ( 2000-2010). Where will I find a record of this divorce? I know the names of both parties.
