Jailed for an Outdated Attitude

A surgeon in Belgium was jailed for 10 months for sexist language. Half of it was suspended so he will serve 5 months behind bars. His attitude was that women are only here to serve men and do chore’s and yes his attitude is wrong but criminal?

It scares me more that he was jailed for an outdated attitude than his outdated attitude does.

It was worse than women are only here to serve men and do chores -

'His comments were not unintentional but “long-winded, well-aimed, repeated, particularly vulgar, women-unfriendly and hateful statements,” the chair of the court in Ghent said. They “encourage psychological and physical violence against women.'

' His comments included: “Women want the privileges of male protection and money, but they do not want to open their legs anymore”; “We have given women dishwashing machines and cleaning ladies, until they themselves became superfluous”; and “You cannot treat a woman like an equal without becoming her slave.”

So, pretty nasty - and the majority of his audience were young men.

It is very nasty but how does jailing him help anyone?

Would hitting him in the pocket not be just as effective? Could jailing him not risk turning him into a martyr?

Have to agree, jailing him does nothing - except allow him to pass his views onto other inmates.
Perhaps a course on psychology, and updating his attitudes would be handy!

Makes you wonder about female members of his family. :-S

He wouldn't survive long at one of our family gatherings - both the men and women would quickly show him the door.

It does make you wonder about the female members of his family.

He wouldn’t survive long at one of our family gatherings either.
