Thanks names but I've put my trust in the majority and everything I've read online.
Having two antivirus programmes installed at the same time is a bad idea.
Why does anyone think they need two?

OH says we have both WD and Norton. Norton being the better system. They don’t interfere with each other.

If you click security on the task bar the options should come up. Or go to settings and put Security in the search.

If you have BT Broadband (not EE) you get Norton for free.

Thanks LG
My sub to Norton ended yesterday, I thought it was tomorrow so here I am, winging it :-0 Only time will tell if Defender is more active without Norton sitting on it. I have been getting scan reports but how do I check things such as firewall?

Norton clashes with loads of things it is a damn nuisance :-| :-| :-|. I used it for a while then ditched it :-)

Many thanks LG and Ann
Exactly what I was asking.
I've been having a good read via Mr Google and nothing points to WD not being enough - as long as common sense prevails and looking at dodgy websites doesn't.
That's saved me 80 quid - ooh what should I treat myself to LOL
:-D

Oh and running two AV programmes will clash
I'll be having a word with my IT guy..... :-S

I just have WD and C cleaner, WD seems to do the job for me. I had McAfee when I bought this PC but I remembered from before that my OH got rid of it because it was more nuisance than help. Many years back we had Norton and it was OK.

I find Defender fine on it's own , no problems with it at all :-)

Thanks Joy.

Defender is built in with Microsoft. I have had just that in the past and all was ok.
I didn't realise that currently I also have Norton, which is about to run out.

I'm wondering if anyone here finds Win Defender enough?

Island, years ago I had Norton but now it's McAfee. I think my beloved changed to Mcafee somewhere along the line but I don't know why - probably monetary is my guess!

Thanks Ann
I didn't word that very well did I LOL
I meant WD always notifies me when it has done a scan so I do know it is working.
I never get any such notices from Norton, is it doing anything or is it clashing with WD?
Before WD was a thing and I only had Norton I was often getting notices from them.

I suppose that maybe WD will only notify anything other than a scan run if there is something bad happening. I also just get the info when a scan has been run.

Thank you Andysmum

I've had windows defender a few years, I was still running Norton then I was advised not to have the latter. I didn't realise that the IT shop had put Norton back on and now it's about to run out :-S :-S :-S
Oddly, I only get notified by W.D when it has run scans but not from Norton. :-S

Hoping someone can advise further :-D

I don't know about Defender but we have had trouble with Norton and other anti-virus programs. It seems to be one of those that doesn't like competition. We have avoided it since then and had no further bother.

is it enough and will it, as I once heard, not work well if, say, Norton is added?

I have googled but would value the view of anyone who knows what they are talking about.

Cheers

PS.... it's built in anti virus for those who don't know :-)
