Years ago most divorced women kept their married name, especially if they had children so that their name was the same as the childrens. However these days a lot of divorced women seem to revert to their previous name. There is no hard and fast rule about this though. You can use whatever name you choose as long as it isn't to defraud anyone.

These days a lot of women use a double-barrelled name on marriage (American fashion) and drop the second half if they get divorced. I don't envy people doing family history research in the future!

I agree.
Each case is individual.
One of my cousins married, then divorced and married again using her maiden name.

Just to add an extra twist, during the first marriage the surname was changed by deedpoll, so some of the children of that marriage were registered with that new surname.

As Andysmum says, difficult to track unless you have personal knowledge.

I have 2 daughters divorced. One has kept her married name as it is the same as the children but the other one paid to go back to her maiden name.
