????? Well, Bunbury … that was something else ?????
The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed this was the most powerful system to hit the South West since relevant records began in 1977. We felt every bit of it.
We hope you're all safe. We know the apartment building in South Bunbury copped significant damage, and there's a lot of debris, fallen trees and mess across our city.
It's going to take some time to get things back to normal, but we'll get there together.
?? Storm Advice - still current for Bunbury & South Bunbury ??
The damaged roof on that multi-storey apartment building in South Bunbury may remain unstable and could pose a debris hazard.
Please:
?? Stay away from damaged buildings and structures until they've been assessed as safe
?? Be careful around fallen trees, damaged branches and storm debris
?? Stay well clear of fallen power lines – always assume they are live
?? Avoid unnecessary travel – roads and pathways may be obstructed
?? Keep children and pets away from damaged areas
?? If you must drive, slow down and drive to conditions
??? City facilities – where things are at ???
Bunbury Visitor Centre – reopening tomorrow ?
Bunbury Museum & Heritage Centre – reopening tomorrow ?
Bunbury Regional Art Gallery – reopening Wednesday ?
South West Sports Centre (gym/facilities) – pending power restoration this evening, reopening tomorrow 5:45am ?
South West Sports Centre (pool) – closed pending water testing, aiming for Wednesday/Thursday ??
Bunbury Wildlife Park – closed for clean-up, aiming to reopen Thursday ??
??? Storm debris and waste ???
We know many in our community are dealing with a lot of fallen branches and debris on your properties - we hear you. Our full waste team is back after the public holiday and will be assessing the situation then. We'll keep you updated once we know more.
?? Supporting our most vulnerable ??
We hear you - and we hear the frustration. We know this storm has been particularly frightening for those without a safe place to shelter, and we know more support is needed in our community for people experiencing homelessness.
This is something the City is actively working on with local services and government agencies - not just during emergencies, but longer term. It's complex and we don't have all the answers right now, but we want you to know we're listening and we take it seriously.
If you or someone you know needs urgent housing assistance:
?? Crisis Care: 1800 199 008
?? Entry Point: 1800 124 684
?? Emergency: 000 (if someone's life is in danger)
?? Keep an eye out for stranded turtles ??
Our friends at the Dolphin Discovery Centre have let us know that the wild weather may wash marine turtles ashore along South West beaches. Their team has already responded to the first stranded turtle of the season this morning.
If you're walking along the coast over the coming days and spot a stranded turtle:
?? Gently pick it up with one hand on either side of the shell
?? Place it on a damp towel in an open box or container
?? Do NOT put it back in the water
?? Do NOT cover it with towels or blankets
?? Call for help immediately
?? Dolphin Discovery Centre (8am to 3pm daily): 9791 3088
?? DBCA Wildcare Helpline: 9474 9055
Head over to the Dolphin Discovery Centre's page for full details.
?? Thank you ??
A huge shout out to our SES volunteers, Western Power crews, emergency services and our own City teams who have been out in horrendous conditions keeping our community safe. We are so grateful for everything you do ??
Stay informed:
?? Emergency WA: https://vist.ly/565i9
?? Bureau of Meteorology: https://vist.ly/565ia
?? Western Power outages: https://vist.ly/565i8
Need help?
?? Emergency: 000 (life-threatening)
?? SES: 132 500 (storm damage, fallen trees, flooding)
?? Western Power: 13 13 51 (damaged power lines)
Take care out there, Bunbury. Check on your neighbours, take it easy on the roads, and don't take any risks around debris or damaged structures. We'll keep you updated as the clean-up progresses ?? See less

Gwyn, that was part of the problem with the storms, which incidentally have been stated to be the worst for fifty years, no rain for a long time so the ground had dried and was unable to soak up any run-off and hence the major flooding. At the end of winter the reverse happens (depending on rainfall) ie the ground is waterlogged and h can't accept any more run-off. Result? Flooding.

As for the winds, well I'm just glad that we were not living in our old house which was in an exposed condition.

Beach erosion has also been terrible. In Bunbury two to three metres of beach have disappeared. Up in Lancelin, north of Perth, five metres of beach have gone.

There are still areas around Perth without power.

Goodness me, that looks severe :-0
Keep safe, Allan.

Meanwhile.....

Weather forecasters tell us we are now entering our meteorological summer.
Spring rainfall figures show that in my area we had just 26% of usual Spring rainfall.

Will that give them another excuse to blame the figures for loss of water supply in our taps?
'Extra demand' has been the given reason for South-East Water not being able to supply homes in our recent heatwave :-|
