Evening all I'm sad as I naively believed that we were all on here as we have a genuine love for family history. I have been encouraged how everyone rallies round members having trouble whether its bereavement, family or something else. I thought we were suposed to be one big family, ok with its minor arguments of course, helping each other with our fantastic hobby! Reading some of the posts on here am I so wrong & have I really judged some of the people on here so wrongly? As it says in the title I'm very sad :-(

Oh Clare - this site is so so how you thought it was.... trust me I would not have survived the last 2 months if it wasn't!! xx

I haven't done any family history for over a year :-)

I'll be totally honest. It was when I first joined but now it's more the social side, I still do genealogy sometimes but not with the huge enthusiasm I had to start with. I wanted to find out who my grandfather was, that's all, and then got carried away. I have found loads of relatives through this site that I didn't know I had. I will always be grateful for that but it's the cameraderie of this board that keeps me from letting my membership lapse. I think you are mistaken, for the most part members are all the things you want them to be. There's only the few that cause upset. Mags xx

I know Pink the majority of peps on here are fantastic & cna't wait for my 1st meet in June but just so sad at what I've read today...don't think theres any need for it all sorry Daniel I can gather that you spend all the time chatting up the ladies!! lol :-)

I tend to ignore the nasty stuff - it is only usually a small proportion - if people want to waste their time joining in - that's their choice!! The 2 brick walls in my family tree have been broken by people on this site so I've lots to be grateful for.

Oh Clare you embrass me. BTW, you still got that picture of me in YFT by your bed? :-)

clare youre first thought were right . this is a family site and friendly I would have been lost without it these past 3 years. I am lucky I have lots of friends on here though so my opinion could be biassed

I like the social side too don't get me wrong....& the thought on a couple occasions I've been able to help another member (non-geneolgical) is great..... I love the general boards sometimes just to give me a giggle just think some of the stuff is unnessary & would hate any one to be upset by anyone else as thats not what its all about.

Hi Clare I haven't been on today apart from very briefly this morning, so I don't really know which thread you mean but try to think of it like plane travel. Nobody mentions the hundreds and hundreds of planes that fly each day safely, you only hear about the odd plane crash. In other words, 99.99% of the people on here are lovely:)) Chrissie x

Clare , this board is full of great people who will make you smile when you feel really down , they will give you advice and information if needed , but most of all they are always around when you need someone to talk to , so forget about the baddies and just talk to the goodies :-))))))))))))))))

Thank you guys its good to know I wasn't wrong in my 1st thougt.... Many peps on here have helped me in my 'newbie' searches couldn't of gotton back as far as have without them! Dan of course have it framed so I can look into your eyes before I drift off to sleep everynight!! :-)............pmsl

Clare, Don't be sad. There are some lovely, helpful, supportive, friendly, kind people on here. My family history has ground to a halt, I have hit brick walls all round although so many people have helped. Now I just come on for a chat. I have managed to avoid any unpleasantness although I have seen it mentioned. Just look at the good side and cheer up-chin up!! Love Chris

IMHO I think its about time the people involved called a truce. In my little fantasy world, people would avoid others that they don't get along with and not provoke/instigate any heated discussions or retaliate. If they strongly disagree with a statement they should simply say 'I don't agree with this statement and therefore I'm walking away' End of story, People then should let them walk away and not provoke them any further or make provocative comments about them walking away. I know it would be hard as a lot of water has passed under the bridge and people have been upset. However, what is the alternative? As I said it's only my little fantasy world! As people have said there's a lot of lovely people on here.
