Hi there, Welcome to the madhouse. I joined GR just over a year ago and after having some initial success with my ancestors, found this general topics board. There are many good people here who make you laugh, support you when you are down, celebrate with you when you have good news, help you with problems, practical or emotional, and help with finding rellies too. Now and then there is friction but most of the time it is like being part of a huge family. There have been wonderful efforts recently by some of the members who trekked the Sahara raising money for CRUK and one member walked the Great Wall of China fundraising for the same Charity. Many of us took into our homes a large pink teddybear called Gaynor Bear after a muchloved member of the site (her name was Gaynor) died from cancer, and the bear helped raise awareness and money for CRUK too. This pink bear travelled to many members and had lots of adventures on her way which kept everyone busy keeping track of her and making sure she behaved herself! Now you might think we are all a bit mad with the things we get up to but quite honestly, you have to be a bit mad to spend hours at a computer looking for needles in haystacks which is what some of our ancestors turn out to be. So join in, and have some fun. Be honest, but not unkind, if you get involved in a debate, we are all entitled to our opinions but they needn't cause others to feel upset or belittled. Post jokes, add hints, ask questions, and tell us your good news, share your joys and sorrows, and you will find support and friendship like you wouldn't believe. Liz

I really feel good about being on the site and have a warm fuzzy feeling...Or I could just be really tired. Hope to see more from the this site.. Kila

I have been looking for a father for one of my relatives all evening, have to give up and order her marriage cert: as I have drawn a blank, even with help on the 1841 census from the lovely Suffolk Sue on the Records board. Welcome to the boards Kila. Love Sunny Rosy (not my birth name, just my disposition.!!)

Kila Report 22 Mar 2006 00:56

Hi sunny Rosy, What a lovely disposition to be in!!! I know what you mean about drawing a blank on something... i found out just 6 weeks ago My fathers grandparents (who he never met - coz his mum died when he was 4) lived 1/2 mile from me, and there son and his wife too. Got both death certificates and electral register going back to when they moved here in 1933, but can't find a single living cousin who grew up a few streets away. Really depressed now! Hi Caro, I like Lots of laughs!!! Kila

Just looked on the list I nudged and we are both wrong Carol, it means laugh out loud. Oh well, I knew it was something similar to what I put. Didn't mean to make you jealous - I thought you were trying to say I was a bit gobby!! lol
