Pamela,

There is normally no need to delete your GR tree. However, if you do, before you upload your new tree, check that what you have on GR contains a minimum of one name, probably yours, that has the same details as one on the tree you are attempting to import..

Also, what do you mean by a large tree?

Colin,

The Home person is defined on your gedcom. You need to set this as the person you want it to be before you create your export. If your software is unable to do this then you can request GR to set it for you as there is no user option to do this.

It is a fairly common problem which I used to get regularly before I upgraded to FTM 2010 /11, which now allows me to set myself as the home person.

On the other problems, how many names in your tree? I have no problems accessing and searching trees with over 50,000 names, with notes included. But, you do need to make sure that your browser cache is large enough and is cleared out regularly otherwise there can be problems with trees failing to load fully.

On the other hand, it could be that you are over the size that can reasonably be handled.

I have a very large tree too, and am currently suffering from 3 system faults introduced by Genesreunited since summer of 2010.

It stopped accepting very large gedcom files (35Mb) containing all census, registration information as notes. So I excluded the notes.

Then it started to treat an arbitrary person in my tree as the home person so it no longer opened to show my box.

Now the search boxes have stopped working for anyone I give access to.

All reported to GR - no progress whatsoever on any of them. Very disappointing.

Today I decided to import my latest version of my tree from Family Historian 2.3.1. I downloaded the tree created in genesreunited and kept a copy. I then deleted the tree from the website and tried to upload my newest tree. I keep getting an error that no individual in the gedcom matched the owner of the tree. I then tried to upload the version of the tree created in genesreunited and I get the same error! Help! I have a very large tree and the thought of having to retype everything would take days. Any advice?
