What is the differance between Depression / Anxiety and what is refered to

by many Catholics as The Dark Night of The Soul ?

I'm a lucky fellow, I was hit by a car 1994 landing in the middle of a roundabout
sustaining four pelvic fractures. Had to learn to walk. In 2013 the fool in me
jumped over my own garden wall, crippling myself. I'm lucky I didn't break my
neck. During a long stay in Hospital I was unfortunate to get a Healthcare
Acquired Infection weeks on a drip. I'm lucky some unfortunates die of it.

hope my going on about it hasn't been the cause of the thread's quietude

David, I think perhaps the "Dark night of the soul" for Catholics is a sense of seperation from God, a spiritual crisis. For most of us it's probably meant as a black period generally triggered by an event, eg a death or other tragedy.

Whereas anxiety and depression can be a constant feeling with no 'apparent' cause? Depression can be like a black cloud that just descends, often at random times when there is 'nothing wrong' otherwise. It follows you everywhere and shuts out every bit of light.

David I think most of those who posted originally are no longer on GR. hopefully the thread served it’s purpose for quite a while letting people suffering know they were not alone.
Your accidents were terrible and left you with awful problems. I hope you, in the past, gained something from this thread.

I'm pleased that despite my injuries I never
went back to drinking alcohol,
I quit smoking cigarettes and I never went back to Valium, no need.

Of course, when you are depressed, you think you are the cause of all sorts of things.

That's correct and sometimes we are in whole or in part the

cause of depression in others, effective communication is a dig help.

A coffee and a chat is better than some drugs <3

Back in the 80's I first encountered reference to The God Concept.
It caused in me a deep enduring melancholy for no reason I could explain.

For those who are insomniacs or restless sleepers'

On You Tube there are sound effects, for example

waves or thunder or wind or rain. I find listening to the

gentle rain is a big help, without any drugs.
