Thanks very much Moggie, knew he had one brother but the other two are a surprise. Could you possibly find the marriage of Roys father who I think was called William George Gowing, probably born in Norwich late 1890s/early 1900s.

Thanks, Amanda

This may be his birth. Not Norwich but still Norfolk. Still looking for his marriage.

Hi Amanda
I have looked in the complete index 1918/1919/1920 on Ancestry for a William Gowing marriage to a Baker. Nothing found but I did find a William G Gowing who married an Ethel Betts at Norwich (reg district) Q4 1919 Vol 4b Page 541
and Ethel Baker who married Charles Betts Q2 1911 Norwich (reg district) Vol 4b Page 305
Ethel's maiden name would have gone down as Baker for the Gowing children even though she had been married before.

Betts children with mmn Baker.
Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
Births Sep 1911 (>99%)
BETTS Charles Baker Norwich 4b 200
Births Sep 1912 (>99%)
BETTS William Baker Norwich 4b 217
Births Mar 1916 (>99%)
BETTS James W Baker Nottingham 7b 597
Births Dec 1917 (>99%)
BETTS Ethel E Baker Norwich 4b 168
This would mean that William G was a few years younger than Ethel unless we've got the wrong person. I did find another William George who was born about 1880 and married by 1901.
I think you need to send for a copy of the marriage certificate.
