Gotcha! -- in 1861, that Isaac Sandle was:

ED, institution, or vessel: Renown

Any chance you have the crew list for the Renown?

Stop the shouting now. Inside voice, no capital letters.

It's 5 a.m. here and I have about 10 hours of work to do before 9 a.m.

OOPS SORRY KATHERINE FORGOT TIME DIFFERENCE WHAT IS TIME DIFFERENCE? I AM IN AUSTRALIA.
THERE IS NOT THE NAME OF THE BOAT HE WAS ON ON WHAT YOU FOUND IN THE CENCUS BUT I KNOW HE WAS ON A BOAT IN 1857 CALLED JOHN BUNYAN. THANKS FOR CHECKING THE DEVON SIDE.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SANDOE'S IN ANCESTRY BUT NOT CORRECTING ANYTHING. IF THAT PERSON IS ROY THEN HE KNOWS ALL THE LATEST STUFF BUT THATS ALL.

Someone else has been correcting Sandoe-s (Sandom) of Beer, Devon, at Ancestry too, in 1851, so I'll contact them too.

You think when you post at 1 a.m. my time I won't see it?! ;)

Er ... I guess I mean: you think when you post at 1 a.m. my time I *will* see it ...

Stop making new threads !!1!1!!11!!

Go back to the old thread, now -- I mean, the young thread -- and tell me whether the ship he was on was the one I found Isaac Sandle on in that census.

So now I should delve more deeply into that Sandoe connection of mine, from way back at the beginning of this history.

You try. Sir John George Bice of your part of the world, whose father was Samuel Sandoe Bice, who was my grx2 grandfather's business partner. Google finds stuff, and then you have to hit the censuses etc.

Sir John was born in 1852, I believe, in Callington, Cornwall.

Close.

Name: John George Bice
Year of Registration: 1853
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Liskeard
County: Cornwall
Volume: 5c
Page: 55

What the heck -- make this our Sandoe Bice thread.

Oh great. Samuel Sandoe Bice was born in Devon. And finding Devon records is next to impossible. But if I ask at the Devon family history board, someone will probably look it up.

1861:

Name: Samuel Bice
Age: 39
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1822
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Elizabeth
Gender: Male
Where born: Bearalster, Devon, England

Civil Parish: St Blazey
Ecclesiastical parish: Par
County/Island: Cornwall
Country: England

Registration district: St Austell
Sub registration district: Fowey
ED, institution, or vessel: 16
Household schedule number: 7

Elizabeth Bice 39
Elizabeth Bice 15
John Bice 7
Samuel Bice 39
Samuel Bice 11 (also Samuel Sandoe Bice)

That makes the wife Elizabeth Rawe (?), I assume.

No Samuel Bice 1822ish in the IGI.

Oh crap! I've identified the wrong Samuel Bice in the 1841 at Ancestry. Here he is:

Name: Samuel Bice
Age: 15
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1826
Gender: Male

Civil Parish: St Blazey
Hundred: Powder (East Division)
County/Island: Cornwall
Country: England

Registration district: St Austell
Sub registration district: Fowey

Charles Bice 14
Elizh Bice 9 Mo
Henry Bice 10
Henry Bice 3
Honor Bice 50
James Bice 15
John Bice 25
Sally Bice 20
Samuel Bice 15
Wm Bice 50

Interesting ...

SAMUEL SANDOE BICE
Birth: 22 OCT 1821
Christening: 11 NOV 1821 Wesleyan, Tavistock, Devon, England
Father: WILLIAM BICE
Mother: HONOUR
Batch No.: C063991

SAMUEL BICE
Birth: 13 FEB 1819
Christening: 22 FEB 1819 Higher Chapel-Independent, Bere Alston, Devon, England
Father: BICE
Mother: HENOUR SANDER
Batch No.: C063351

But we seem to have our answer: Samuel Sandoe Bice's mother was Honor Sandoe.

HONOR SANDOE
Spouse: WILLIAM BICE
Marriage: 26 NOV 1812 Stoke Damerel, Devon, England
Batch No.: M052421

And in 1851, some stranger has corrected her name at Ancestry!

Name: Honsur Bice
[Honour Bice]
Age: 61
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1790
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: William
Gender: Female
Where born: Burferin, Devon, England
(that will be Beer-Ferrers, sometimes Beer-Ferris, where Beer-Alston also was)

No indication of relationship, but I shall contact that person tomorrow:

Correction Detail:
Given Name: Honour
Correction Type: Transcription Error
Explanation: Reviewed image. Alternate English spelling of this name. Found in 1841 and 1861 censuses spelled Honor Bice.
Contributed On: 21/02/2008

No birth for her in the IGI, but I'll give the Devon people a try.

I'm interested because the Sandoe-Bice trajectory so closely mirrors my Hills' -- from a small parish near Plymouth/Devonport to Stoke Damerel to the Liskeard area of Cornwall -- and Samuel Sandoe Bice was my Hill grx2 grfather's partner in a mine lease in Callington (that was at least drafted, in 1857; I haven't investigated what came of it). And also your Isaac's, in some ways.

And because a few years after Samuel Sandoe Bice and family moved to Australia, so did my gr-grfather.

Sandoe is not a common name there, but not common as a Hill o' dirt. ;) Your Stephen & Isaac are undoubtedly related to Honor, it's just a matter of how far back.

Hi Katherine in Canada,
yep old Isaac was indeed a Sandoe while in the navy as i have a list of seaman on the ship he was on.Yes both Isaac's had a stephen for a father. I thought maybe if i can find relatives of James or Sarah Sandoe they may be able to clear this up. Thanks so much for your help the saga continues.
