I have been told that surnames tend to 'cluster' around specific areas if you go back far enough in time. What about the 'Horns'? Where do they originate from? I have reason to believe it might be Sweden and would be very interested to hear from anyone with evidence in that (or any other) direction. My Grandmother 's maiden name is Horn and I managed to trace her family back to the 18th Century, a journey that took me (just on paper) continously eastwards: Berlin, West Prussia, East Prussia, Estonia, Sweden, namely Andreas Horn who apparently was brought from Sweden to Estonia by Katharina the Great as a sort of Gouvernour. But there the trail goes cold as I do not speak Swedish So, any Swedes out there who could throw some light on the name? Is it common-place or never heard of? |
