I just wanted to say a few words on here about our lovely BC...... <3 <3

BC told me she enjoyed the thread and did like to read or post on it when she could....

Her books and their descriptions where fantastic, and dare I say some of her reads where way out of my league.......She would make us laugh with her reviews...they were brilliant and so so funny sometimes.....

Her review of a book she was reading about how a lady had lost her eyeball and the intrigue and laughter we had wanting to know what happened where hilarious...

We were all bookworms until BC gave us the name Kindle Tarts on here..... <3 <3 <3

Finished The Lost Prince, this is the shocking story
of Louis Charles young son of Marie Antoinette who
was cruelly treated for no other reason than for who
he was.
I challenge anyone who reads this book not to feel
shock and horror at what he had to suffer at such a
young age.

If anyone read and enjoyed Robert K Massie's "Nicholas & Alexandra" the follow-up book "The Romanovs: The Final Chapter" is available to download from Amazon at £1.09. I understand there is quite a lot of technical stuff about the forensic side of things which might be a bit boring and/or difficult but at that price I'm going to download it and have a go at it.

Have just now finished "From Geordie Land to No Mans Land" by George Russell Elder.

It's based on the very accurate diaries of an ordinary Geordie bloke and his experiences in WW1. Sad, humorous and shocking.

Will happily pass it on to anyone who'd like a read of it.

Too rich for me at that price will wait for it

I finished Jodi Taylor's "Second Chance" last night as well. I love her books but found this one a bit harder than usual to get in to, but about a third of the way in I seemed to click on to the right wave length again and really enjoyed the rest of the book.

Without giving any story away, as you said Detective, the timelines are in a real muddle. I thought the book had a really clever ending which leaves the author with several options for the direction of later books in the series.

Will start the Genes Book Club "Aren't We Sisters" tonight.

Dermot's read isn't quite what I'd choose myself, but sounds fascinating from the Blurb.
Sadly the greed of men seems to sully the legacy of a 'Good' man.

How far we've travelled from the simple message contained in the Bible (and probably the Holy books of other faiths)

I've recently finished Jodi Taylor's A Second Chance, book 3 of the Chronicles of St Mary's series. In my opnion it's the best so far as more pages are spent detailing their time observing historical events. Talk about a time continuum pickle at the end of the book!

Book 4 is already downloaded, but I'll leave it for a while before reading.

Just finished The Perfume Collector by Kathleen Tessaro, can't tell you the story as it is a Greaders book but if you look at the Greaders suggestion thread you can get an idea. It is under a £1 on amazon for Kindle. A very readable book, I enjoyed it.

Has anyone read.. Empress Dowager Cixi..The Concubine
Who Launched Modern China by Jung Chang £4.68 Kindle.

She became a Concubine at the age of 16 and gave birth to
a son, when he was aged 5 he inherited the throne on the death
of his father but his mother Cixi took over the role of Empress Dowager.

She is reputed as having death by hundred cuts and foot binding banned
amongst other things...this is her biography, and documents only came to
light after the death of Mao.

Worth having a lot at the intro on kindle....what do you think?
If you are interested in history this could be a book for you.
