GenesBookClub Advisor Report 6 Sep 2013 11:49

We are excited to announce that next week we will be launching the Genes Book Club in partnership with Penguin.

Each month Penguin will kindly be donating 50 books to send to our members in return for a review posted on the Genes boards. They will also be sending over discussion points to really get us all talking!

We will be asking those of you who want to join the book club to get in touch next week. Members may join the book club at any time, but as we only have 50 books to send out each month, we will set up a Book Club member list. The first title will be sent out on a first come first served basis and then over the following months we will work our way down the Book Club member list to make sure everyone receives a free book at some point. For those who don't receive a book in a particular month, we will be uploading the first 50 pages for you to read so that you can see if it is a book you might enjoy.

We will be announcing the first title next week and hope that lots of you will want to be involved in the Book Club. Penguin will be sending the books out to you directly and there will be no charge to receive the books.

If you have any questions please feel free to add to this thread.

Thanks

The Book Club Team!

Thank you for having removed the superfluous full stop in the link in the opening post in http://www.genesreunited.co.za/boards/board/general_chat/thread/1331113 in the general board.

Also, thank you for the advice that it is a worldwide book club.

I would be interested in joining the book club - provided that I have absolute guarantee that my address or other detail will only be used to send book/s to me and for no other purpose.

Can that guarantee, as requested by Tess, be given, please?

After reading the preview I have to say that so far I have been shocked, sympathised, disliked intensely, laughed out loud, sniffed a few times, intrigued and many other mixed emotions....Hurry up and send me the book GR...I want to know how it finishes.........and sheesh....do children really speak like that in front of teachers.

PS....I know of one person on the boards who teaches and also has the colour thoughts and feelings thingy ( sorry....can't remember what it is called am writing this without notes )-).Perhaps they will see this and read the book too.

edit...Synaesthesia :-D

Can anyone tell me if the book club is still running. The last entry I can find is 2013.

Sadly, Dorothy, the book club seems to have died a death. The last book I remember getting was around the middle of 2015. The idea was that Penguin supplied the books and everyone who received them posted a bit of a review on the board. But often there were only a few reviews.

Presumably Penguin or Genes decided it wasn't worth doing but it just seemed to fizzle out. It's a shame as I was lucky enough to get several of the books and read, and mostly enjoyed, things by authors I wouldn't normally have bought.

It would have been polite of Genes to notify people that they were abandoning it.
