Check out the FIND ANCESTORS board. If you post there instead, you will get so much help from other members you'll be bowled over.

When you post here, nobody can reply to your post on the boards, and nobody knows who else may have replied to you privately to try to help you. So what happens is ... you don't get any replies from other members who could help you.

The odds of anyone who is actually related to you seeing your post here on the day you add it are ... astronomically low! (Have you searched on the board to see whether the people you're looking for are looking for *you*?)

To find people, you really have to *look for them*, not wait for them to find you. That's what we old hands at this site do when you post on FIND ANCESTORS -- we help you *find* people, and we all have a great time doing it.

Please don't post in both places, though. That can mean that people spend time doing the same thing someone else has done, to try to find information for you.

And be careful to protect people's privacy. You don't have to tell us about the family scandals or tragedies when you explain who you're looking for.

Read the post at the top of the FIND ANCESTORS board called "Guidelines for posting a look-up request" for some helpful tips and rules before posting, and browse a few FIND ANCESTORS threads, and you'll get a feel for the community here, which is what it's all about for many of us -- members helping other members find their families, long deceased or still living.
