FINDING TWIN DAVID LEE B 1941 - STILL LOOKING

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Rosie Report 8 Jun 2011 08:44

Please can someone help to locate David Lee born in Ap/May/June 1941 in Andover, Hampshire. He has a twin sister Daphne Lee.Their mother was Marjorie Ivy Lee b in 1913 in Wiltshire and she lved in Andover until moving to Yorkshire where she died recently at the age of 97.

Marjorie is my great aunt and she had 4 children - Margaret B 1938, Peter B 1939 and twins David and Daphne in 1941.

They were all at the Alton Childrens Home, Winchester . As far as we know David wasn't adopted as Margaret can remember them being with her in the home.

Davids twin sister Daphne lives in the Portsmouth area and from marriage records she married a Brian Solly.

Peter found his mother later in life and lived with her after his divorce until his death in 2006 in Rotherham

Margaret now lives happily in London with her husband and has 4 grown up children but life was tough growing up in care and the children were all told they were there because their mothers didn't want them - very cruel but I suppose thats how it was in those days.

Margaret would dearly love to know what happened to her little brother David - even if someone has some information from years back about him would be fantastic - or of Daphne who she lost contact with several years ago.

We are not ruling out the possibility of David living overseas so if anyone has access to maybe immigration records from around the mid 1950's or marriage and death records ( anywhere ) we would be so grateful for their help

Thank you for trying to help fit the the last piece of jigsaw

I have records for Daphne and Brian;s marrriage, birth etc, Peter I know and am in contact with his family and Margaret. I have a feeling that David is still living and is in the Wiltshire area - his date of birth is 3rd May 1941 at Andover Cottage Hospital, Andover, Hants

Please now delete the duplicate.....thank you.

As over 50 people have viewed this request, and none has offered any info, I rather fear you may be unlucky.

Can you say which records you have accessed in your quest for this man...............

Are you saying you have contact with his sister Daphne? Not quite sure!

Ok - will delete duplicate just now - These 4 people are my grt aunts children -

Davids oldest sister Margaret is the person who I am in contact with and she has asked for my help in finding David. In 2006 Margaret found Daphne - Davids twin sister ( I'm not sure how she found her ) and they met a couple of times but Daphne said that she didnt know what had happened to David..

Margaret and Daphne were so happy to have found each other and they exchanged gifts - Daphne gave Margaret a silver bracelet with sister on it and it seemed to be goig rather well. After a couple of meetings - one down in Portsmouth with Daphne and the other up in London at Margarets suddenly Daphne's husband said thst they didnt want to have any more contact and that was that. Margaret naturally was very puzzled at the sudden change in tune but came to the conclusion that it had been Daphne's husband who was feeling left out

. Sorry to waffle on but just trying to set the scene !

So now with no help from her sister Margaret is doing all she can to try and find David.

I have looked in the death records but not found anything which looks likely and with a name like Lee it is just hopeless looking for marriages - I dont know what else to do now.

Rosie, have you tried looking for David Lee marriages in Wiltshire? Not sure why you think he is there, but at least it is a starting point. I see he has no middle initial, and based on this there is only one possibility assuming if he married it was most likely between the age of 18 and 40.

Have you double-checked for matches using the 'search trees' box above?

The only other thing I can think of is to look on 192.com or work through all David Lee marriages everywhere in England!

Jan

David was in care in a childrens home in Wiltshire and Daphne lives in Portsmouth - my gut feeling is that being twins they might have stayed in touch with each other after leaving the home. None of the 4 children were adopted so they were all Lee's and none of them had a middle name.

I will look at the marriage which you found. I wish I had an unusual surname !!

Thanks Jan

Rosie there are a couple of old posts on the board about David that google found me ....... in one Margaret says he is believed to have gone 'to Winchester Army Barracks'

does that mean as an adult or does that mean he was taken in by a family who lived there ?

there is a marriage in 1971 in Winchester ... no David Lee was born there but that does not necessarily mean anything ... and unfortunately I can't identify the wife's birth ...

Hi Chrissie

I will check that one out - Margaret is his oldest sisters name but she has not mentioned anything about Winchester barracks so I dont think it is her - I'll google David and see'

The 1971 marriage is feasible - thanks for your info. Why couldn't the family name be something unusual !!

Rosie

Just looked - the post is from my cousin Margaret who is Davids sister. It looks as if this was writen just after she found his twin sister Daphne in 2006. Daphne decided after a couple of very happy and emotional visits that she wanted to call their relationship a day - they had met and that was that. so said Daphne's husband but we dont think it was her decission !!

I will try and find some record of David being in the army or as you said maybe taken in by a family. I am trying to get in touch with Daphne but so far no luck - I have just written to her so fingers crossed. She must remember if her brother stayed with her in the childrens home - twins are usually very close.

Will keep you posted = and any other leads would be great x

that's the one ... maybe Margaret can give you a time line for that idea about Winchester barracks

it could indeed also help if she or Daphne could remember how old they were when they last saw David, were they together in the children's home until they struck out on their own or did they go to live with families, that sort of thing ?

oh, one other thing, probably you know David's actual date of birth but if not you should get his birth certificate ( or maybe Margaret knows it from Daphne now as they share it ) ... eventually his death record will show his exact date of birth ... sadly Margaret would not have the chance to find him if that were the only way he was found but the famliies would have the chance to meet

I'm not sure whether deaths after 2005 will ever be searchable that way actually but it's something to keep in mind ... even now you could search the deaths index by date of birth hopefully to rule out a death up to 2005
