We think the birth records were destroyed by fire after they were returned to London but this has not been confirmed. This is a frequently asked question and we would welcome any research on this topic.
When one Brocket Baby started research regarding Brocket Hall, she tried the National Archives who put her on to The Welcome Foundation. They drew a blank and all they were able to say was that after Brocket Hall was closed the records were returned to the Royal Northern Hospital in London. When this closed down the records appear to have been lost. Nobody seems to know what happened after that.

...another fire ! All these fires in records offices /stores andc courts, funny they never make headlines, do they?

'fire' is a common fob off- ask again, they might just mysteriously have been saved somehow . Most are

Brocket babies is drawing a blank at the moment but who knows as new members join something might pop up.

A/Canuck found the right record which is also in GR.

We have drawn a blank so far on the Daphne Wallis's born near 1930 we think that she was only 17 in 1948 but nothing firm to confirm that.

The middle name suspicion comes from a thought that as an unmarried or underage mother she may have been sent away from home to hide while having the baby and therefore used a middle name rather than her given name to add to the hiding away. Could be wrong but we are clutching at straws.

I have been a full GR member for years and have built up a massive family tree. The forum visit this time is only to try and find loose threads that conventional research has not tracked down. The adoption and other registers are a blank as there was a fire and many Brocket records were lost before being transferred.

Her correct given name should be on her son's birth cert

I do not understand about the middle name reference. There are several births for Daphne Wallis pre-1932, showing on free bmd. Are you looking for her birth including a middle name?

For those of us who had no idea where it is -

Brocket Hall,
Welwyn,
Hertfordshire AL8 7XG

And from the Brockett Babies site

"Brocket Hall was used by the City of London Maternity Hospital before and after the destruction by enemy action of the in patient section of that hospital in London EC1."

Has Terence added himself to the national adoption contact register?

GR staff should, I understand, have given you a reason for having removed your thread.

However, aside from that - have you explored http://www.brocketbabies.org.uk/ ? It is an interesting site:-

8,338 Brocket Babies were born within the safety of the walls of Brocket Hall, and in the peace of the countryside.

Brocket Hall was used by the City of London Maternity Hospital before and after the destruction by enemy action of the in patient section of that hospital in London EC1.

This website was created to allow those who were born, gave birth, or who worked at Brocket Hall to share the events of those times and to make contact with each other. Whilst many babies have always known they were born at Brocket Hall there is a small but increasing number of those who were born in Hatfield and subsequently adopted and only found they are one of the World Famous Brocket Babies when they obtained their original birth certificates.

If you are a Brocket Baby, a mother of a Brocket Baby, or worked at Brocket Hall at that time we would love to hear from you.

Some one decided to take down my thread about Daphne Wallis. I am looking for this relative though there is a very good chance that she has died as her date of birth is certainly pre 1932. The only fact known is that she had a baby boy (Terence)at Brocket Hall in 1948. As we have not yet found a birth or marriage record in that name she may have been using a middle name Daphne. If there are any Brocket babies out there you may have a snippet of information as your Mum may have been pally with Daphne or at least remember her. Terence is alive and well though is neither Terence nor Wallis having been renamed by his adoptive parents.
