Don't know where you've looked.................this is from LancsBMD, which I told you about on page one of this thread

You really should put it in your favourites, and use it

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1909
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference

WILSON Margaret East Preston Preston THROUP EP/13/99

If you've only tried freebmd.........MMN isn't on the index till after 1911

Thank you so much for the info on Cronans and Matthews from which we have now been able to build up a picture. We are, however, now stuck on my husbands mothers side! She was Margaret Wilson born 1910 in Preston. Her parents were Matthew Wilson born 1874 in Hexham, Northumberland and Margaret Throup born 1882. With Throup being an unusual name you would think we could easily find her birth, but we can't! Also we can't find anything more about Matthew Wilson. I would think Margaret Throup was born in Lancashire. Any ideas please? Thank you in advance!

Yes, I can see that 1851 census - Mary (born Antrim) a "visitor" with children John (Ireland) Humphrey and Ellen (Liverpool), so you are not buying the info that he was born in Kent then?

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 15 Oct 2013 14:29

It gets more fascinating! I think Humphreys mother was a peddler from Ireland, lodging in Liverpool with three of her children, one of whom was Humphrey

This explains Humphry's imprisonment:

Humphrey Cronan
Date of Trial: 17 Feb 1879
Trial Year: 1879
Location of Trial: Lancashire, England
Sentence: Imprisonment
Crime: See Image
Date of Execution or Release: See I

He was given 5 years for Larceny from a ship.

Wonder if you could help me once more? On the 1871 census I can't read the occupation oh Humphrey Cronan, born c1843. It seems to be marine something?
That was in Liverpool. :-)

Marriages Dec 1932 (>99%)

Matthews James P Moran Preston 8e 1110
Moran Ann Matthews Preston 8e 1110

Three possible offspring........on freebmd

Again, as with the marriage of the parents, and Mary's (above) they were not married in a C of E Church.

The Irish connection would suggest RC

Hi Flip. We didn't really know much about my husbands fathers side at all although he brought my husband up along with his brothers and sisters after their mother died.
My sister in law could remember Uncle Owen which put us on the right track and also that their father had said the street where they grew up. We knew there was an Irish connection but didn't know where. From the info you have found we see that it was my husbands grandfather I.e. His fathers father and also his fathers mothers mother!
We have no idea at the moment what children his fathers brothers and sisters had but armed with this new information we shall investigate. Very many thanks. :-)

Hi Elizabeth,

As Reggie said, you were originally looking for descendants of the family - does that mean you have most of their history?

If you are looking for descendants, you may need to give a few more details - Matthews is a rather common name, so do you have any idea of the names of any of your father's siblings partners. Do you remember any aunts/uncles that would give some leads?

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 14 Oct 2013 21:18

That's brilliant., I hadn't thought of looking on the Lancs bed site. I had just used Genes Reunited. Very many thanks. :-)

Thank you For all the info. As I've been out all day have not yet had the chance to look at it all but shall settle down to do that now. Many thanks

Flip Report 14 Oct 2013 17:02

Fair point Reggie, she may already have all the history and just wants the descendants.........maybe she'll come back later if she needs something more.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 14 Oct 2013 16:41

The actual request is for descendants of the siblings, which was why I posted the death of Owen H, for the OP to get the cert.

But she didn't see any of the info.................

Many eyes are better than 2!!!!

I think this MAY be Margaret Ellen, for the death you posted, but without the marriage cert can't be sure of her fathers name:

Margarita Helena Cronin
Birth Date: 25 May 1870
Baptism Date: 1 Jun 1870
Parish: St Peter's Priory
Father's Name: Humphry Cronin
Mother's Name: Margarita Connor

A catholic baptism in Liverpool. And she is on the 1871 census:

Margret Cronan
Age: 10 Months
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1870
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: Humphry Cronan
Mother's Name: Margret Cronan
