Christine gave her date of birth as Jan 1921 but the only Christine registered for Kilrush in this period was in Oct/Nov/Dec 1922 and it would be breaking the law not to register a child for a whole year, maybe she lied about her age at some stage, making herself older than she was. A christmas birth date may be why she was called Christine, its was traditional to add Christine or Christopher to a Christmas babys name.
She may have had a sister called Mary and there has been a suggestion that she had a sister called Elizabeth who accompanied her to Liverpool for nurse training.

. At this stage my friend is satisfied that she has made contact with her half brothers family but as is only natural she would love to find out something about her father. The only info she has at present is that he was a "Navy doctor". Christine only appears in English records in 1945 so where was she living if she was in England during the war years? Any input would be appreciated.

Yes we know all that but in this case the informant was her son who is dead and never knew anything about his mothers past anyway

You say 'no further info' on death cert

The point of advising people to get death certs is mainly for the informant's details. He or she would almost certainly have known the woman, and may have been related.

She also appears on the 1945 electoral register.

There is a Mary E Madigan who marries a Miller in Liverpool and has 4 sons.

Yes her marriage cert gives her father as Patrick , no further info on death cert. She was very closed mouthed about family details. The area she comes from is littered with Patrick Madigans but they havent digitalised the birth records yet

In the time since you first posted, has your friend done anything about getting the death cert, as suggested?

Her MC to Charles Cooper should give details of her father, if known. if you're lucky, her sister or other family member might be a witness.

Has your friend accessed her adoption file? If not, there may be further details on that.

Sadly John Gavin Cooper was my friends half brother however through his widow she has got some information about her mother who seems to have been a bit of a mystery woman. She is supposedly from Co Limerick but we cant find a birth cert there for 1920, she never really mentiones family members but may have had a sister called Mary and may have trained as a nurse in Liverpool. She only appears on the electoral register in 1946, we were wondering if she had served in the Forces as my friend was told that her father was a Navy doctor. so many questions at least she now knows where she and her granddaughter got their curly hair from!

Buy a copy of the death cert to find informant's details

The second forename is not recorded in full on the marriage index..........so no way of knowing if any given marriage of a John G Cooper happened to be his

Hi all

Any chance that John Gavin Cooper married before his early death in 2007?

Hi all,

Yes she is looking for her birth mother, she was adopted in England and her adoptive parents moved to Australia. She contacted me as I also have a Christina in my family tree, but she is a Christina M who would have been the wrong age in 1946 to be a qualified hospital nurse having been born in Jan 1930 plus living in a different country. The Christine Veronica Madigan who married Charles Cooper looks like a good bet for her as the name combination is so unusual.

Thanks I will let her know what youve discovered frederick and get back to you

Hi

Have no firm idea re age might have been early 20's as she was a qualified hospital nurse and Madigan is her maiden name
