Hello there

My name is Laura Brown. I am replying to this post because you helped Karen Thomas (my step sister) find me back in Aug 2011!!! So thank you so much all of you who helped. I have been looking for Karen since 1997!!!

Now, due to the fact that Karen was successful with your help, I am hoping you can all help me to find my biological father. I have very little to go on though.

Name:- John Nixon
Age when with my biological Mum:- 25 in 1972
Estimated D.O.B.:- 1947
Living in;- Chester, Cheshire area
My biological Mum:- Yvonne Mary Whiteside
Job:- on birth cert it says 'labourer', but I did some research back in the 1990's and maybe he went into the pub trade in Chester, but not sure.

Anyway, that's all the information I have at the moment. It probably won't be enough, but I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thank you in advance
Laura Brown
:-)

Hi Laura

Does you Mum know the names of his parents or the names of any siblings he may have had??

To add to PH's query, if you don't have the above info, do you have any addresses for him?

There's one birth 1947 in Chester itself - might not be yours, but if nothing else emerges might be worth checking out. There is a middle initial though.

Hi there

Thanks so much for your replies. I found out in 2011 that my birth mother had died in 2000. I found her then husband who hadn't even been told about me, so I was unable to ask him anything.

I have just had some brilliant advice, and have searched the family trees. I have come up with 6 John Nixons, and have emailed all of them. I suppose it is just a waiting game.

I have addresses for my biological mother around that time. What should I do with them? Maybe he lived with her at some point. According to my adoption file, they were together 18 months in total.

What do you reckon?

Thanks so much
Laura :-)

You could contact the main library for where the address is and check the address for that time on the electoral roll, to see who lived there

Not sure where these 6 John Nixons are....unless you have sent messages to people who have him in their tree? or ones not born in chester?

Hi Jax

Thanks for the advice. I am living in Ireland, and the details of movements and addresses are in Chester, England. I don't think I'll be able to ask for these details of address on the electoral roll - over the phone. So not sure where to go from here.

Yes, I got the 6 John Nixons from the 'Family Tree'. I emailed all 6 of them...you never know.

Not sure where to go from here though.

Any ideas? Laura :-S

You can only try phoning or emailing to see whether they will do it or not....of course if they will, they may also charge

PM received - have advised Laura to post on here, unless the info is confidential:

'...Thanks for your help in tracing my biological father. I only have addresses for my biological mother and her whereabout for a 7 year period (all in social worker reports).

I live in Ireland and so I won't be able to go into the library in Chester to look up electoral rolls. Is that right? I can look at electoral rolls with the addresses I have and the dates? Not sure how it all works.

Anyway, I'm going to have to find another way of doing this. If you have any ideas, they will be very much appreciated.'

Well, this seems to be the site ifor the archives - getting research done a bit pricey though:

http://archives.cheshire.gov.uk/how_we_can_help/researching_our_records.aspx

I would email them and explain your predicament.

In the meantime, have you located any other family members? I am wondering if your mother had siblings.

Was that her birth name? Can't see a birth for her in England/Wales.

There appear to be Whiteside/Caruana twins registered in 1945.

Laura Report 7 Mar 2014 08:26

Hi there Rose

In answer to your email....Yes, Karen got in touch with me (half-sister), and, due to the fact that I had found Graham in 2011, I then contacted Graham. Karen has met up with Graham and also our biological Mum's brother - Frank. I was unable to go to the reunion which was a shame.

The Whiteside/Caruana twins have not been found by the family, as far as I have been told. I've no idea what happened to them. Their mother (my grandmother) died in childbirth unfortunately. I think they were sent back to Lancashire or Yorkshire, for adoption, but I am not sure. Caruana was the maiden name of my Mother's mother (grandmother).

Hi Jan

Yeah, my mother was born in Malta, that's probably why she can't be found for England and Wales. I was 1 of 6, but unfortunately there is only me and Karen left. The other 4 have died. I have social worker reports relating to my biological mother for a 7 year period, and the information is very sad. She had a difficult life.

I'm maybe going to ring up the library in Chester and ask what they suggest I do regarding addresses etc. I think you're right though, I think it's going to be costly.

To be honest, I think it's like a needle in a haystack!!! Considering the fact that I only have his name and approx age, don't think I'll find him. But, I finally found my birth Mum after 14 years, so I'll keep on going.

Thanks to everyone for your help,
Laura

Is Karen still in touch with Frank? My thinking is that he might remember your father, and have a little bit more information which may help you - names of friends/family/where he lived/worked for example.

The other thing you might try is looking for anybody else who might remember them. As you have an address for your mother, you could try an address search on Friends Reunited and see if anyone who lived there is a member. Or even write to neighbours! You never know, worth a try. My Mum has lived in the same house for 50 years, so it isn't totally impossible!
