Hello - working on the premise that the Ramseys emigrated to New Zealand (as a friend thought possible), Ive searched through the passenger lists but cannot find any for after 1960. If they did emigrate, I believe it would have been in the 1960s.
Is there any way I can check such passenger lists?
Many thanks,
Joyce

Many thanks for this Patchem.

The marriage looks hopeful. So does the birth of Jean C Ramsey in 1944.
Yes, we ruled this birth out as I am pretty sure Jean had just the one sibling and from the records it looks as though there's a sister, Linda.
But perhaps this IS the Jean - and perhaps David who is listed with the same mother's maiden name, born in 1951, is the brother.

Hmm. Will try to persue this line.

Cheers,Joyce

Marriages Dec 1943
Frost Elsie L Ramsay Battersea 1d 468
Ramsay William D Frost Battersea 1d 468

Added;

And this was a previous birth suggested:

Births Dec 1944 Jean C Ramsey Frost Dewsbury
Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding

But we ruled that one out.

Cannot yet see a marriage.

This looks like the only birth for a William D (unless he swapped his names around, or added an extra name):

Births Jun 1917
Ramsey William D Belson S.Shields 10a 1299

Added:
Only, unfortunately, he dies:
Deaths Sep 1917
Ramsey William D 0 S.Shields 10a 743

Hello - I've managed to get the Electoral Register checked for Springfield Road, Wimbledon for 1957. At No. 19 lived William D and Elsie L Ramsey. However, I cannot seem to find a marriage for them.
I'd be grateful if someone could help.

Many thanks, Joyce

Hi Grainne - I've just read the bit about the hairdresser in St Georges Road. Interesting. I'll see if I can put something on the website about Springfield Road, Wimbledon.

Still searching for Arthur Ramsey. I'm wondering if Arthur could have been his middle name?

Will try and get the electoral rolls covering Springfield Road looked at.

Will be in touch.

Thank you once again, Joyce

Grainne 20118919191919 Report 11 May 2014 18:00

Joyce, sorry the link went to the whole page; the bit i was reading referred to the Queens road school and someone called Jean, bit of a longshot but there is also another story of someone going to the school who went on to work in a hairdressers on St Georges Road. I know it's a roundabout way of finding someone but some of the people posting on here might have some useful knowledge.

You can contact people if you register.

Thank you Grainne. An interesting website. Alas, it's all about places and doesn't appear to have search facilities for people. But many thanks for your thoughts.

An very close old friend of Jean believes that Jean's brother was called Arthur.

It is believed that Jean's family emigrated to New Zealand, but it is thought that Jean did not necessarily go with them.

No-one has heard from her since the early 1960s and I don't know of anyone who's definitely heard that the family did emigrate.

I have been tryin for decades to find her.

I am not related to Jean. There was a small group of close friends in the 1950s which included Jean. I have tried the usual 'friends' websites - local newspaper - and in the earlier years I spoke to a couple of their neighbours in Springfield Road. I made no progress.

I really appreciate the help that you folks are giving. Many thanks. Joyce

Just to help explain to Joyce, Springfield Road and Wimbledon Hill Road are close to each other alphabetically within the polling district, I think.

If you wish to find ER info, you will have to visit the appropriate main public library, where you can search by address

Passenger list info on line ceases at 1960.

Are you related to Jean?

You haven't given any indication of why you wish to trace her

Thank you for looking out this information.

The road in question is definitely Springfield Road. Wimbledon Hill Road is about half a mile away, so I don't understand why this features in the above printout.

I don't remember the house number of Springfield Road.

(In an earlier message I said that Springfield Road was formerly called Park Road. I made a big mistake. Sorry for this. Springfield Road has always been called Springfield Road).

I'll see if I can get the actual paper records check and will get back to you at some point.

Thank you, Joyce

My problem is that I have difficulty with ancestry ER's.

e.g. According to the image, Maureen M Hallman is living at 4 Springfield Road.

This is what ancestry has transcribed:

London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965 about Maureen M Hallmann
Name: Maureen M Hallmann
Year: 1965
County or Borough: Merton
Ward or Division/Constituency: Wimbledon
Street address: 4 Wimbledon Hill Road
Reference Number: LCC/PER/B/3086

Wimbledon Hill Road is the next column in the ER entries.

Cannot see any Clacks on the image.

I was looking for Springfield Road before 1965, but if it is in Surrey and ancestry only has London, not Surrey, then I will not be able to see the parents before 1965.

In which case someone needs to inspect the ER's in person.

Wimbledon was in Surrey up until it became the London Borough of Merton which was probably around 1965.

So Springfield Road was in Wimbledon, Surrey up until then.

Another name in Springfield Road was 'Clack'.

Many thanks for all your help.

I have found Springfield Road, from 1 to 22, in 1965, in Merton, Wimbledon. Possibly wrongly transcribed as I got there from Rostrevor Road.
No-one surname Ramsey.

Have you got any other surname in that area so I can check?

Was Merton, Wimbledon created in 1965, so in another area before then (Surrey?)?
