Marina Report 20 Jun 2015 12:20

I'm trying to find any members of my grandfathers family, my grandfather, Alfred was born in 1904.His father's name was William Henry Joyner, a merchant seaman according to my grandparents marriage certificate. Alfred died in Kent in 1963 having not mentioned or had any contact with his parents or siblings as far as my mother, his daughter knows. The only info we have is that he was born in London, but we can find no evidence of that as far as birth certificates etc. We would love to hear from anyone who thinks they could be related to us, and fill in the blanks for us!

This is the only Alfred Joyner that I can see who was born in London around that time (1905):-

First name(s) ALFRED
Last name JOYNER
Birth year 1905
Birth quarter 3
Registration month -
Mother's last name -
District MILE END OLD TOWN
County London
Country England
Volume 1C
Page 416

Do you know the date of his birthday (even if the year is out from what you thought)?

Who did Alfred marry?

Kenneth

Kenneth Report 20 Jun 2015 14:03

Alfred Joyner died 3rd quarter 1905 Mile End Old Town age 0

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 20 Jun 2015 14:32

That rules that birth out then Kenneth.

If you have no birth certificate Marina, you can't be certain that your grandfather was born in London, or that he was born in 1904 as dates are often different to what you are told without a certificate to prove anything.

Probably not Joyner at birth...............and the 'father' was deceased when he married.

So much work done on the other thread...........posting again is simply not fair

Marina Report 20 Jun 2015 15:37

Ok, I'll try and answer all the questions as best I can, we only have a marriage certificate of his marriage to my nan in 1930 in kent, he did not talk about his family, the only tit bits we have are handed down info, therefor might not be accurate. As we cannot be sure where he was born we cannot get an sure of DOB. The death Jacqueline found is correct, he died when my mother was 12.
His father was shown as deceased on the marriage certificate.
He seems to have appeared out of nowhere as official stuff only picks him up from marriage onwards.

I only put it on here, to try from a different angle, to see if anyone out there remembered a family member that disappeared of the radar, he might not have been a joyner at birth and many children were taken on by other members of extended family.
It's just meant to be a shot in the dark, all family's have their little story's and black sheeps in the family.

Hello Marina,
What was Alfred's address and occupation when he married in 1930, and who were the witnesses?

From the thread highlighted by Jacqueline

Marina Report 30 Aug 2014 21:56

Thanks for the help, I had seen the William Henry from Bermondsey and also think it's the most likely as according to my mum he mentioned having a brother William and a sister Victoria, and it's the closest I can get to a William working on water!

But the only one of my relatives that are living ever mentions meeting any of his side of the family, a sister came to visit when he was small and that's it.It's very frustrating!
The Alfred H is my grandfather and I believe the H is for Henry like his father.

Alfred was 25 and Elsie was 22 when they got married. The marriage was witnessed by Elsie's mother Emily and a Winifred Ivy Harris.
