Find Living Relatives

I am trying to find any living relatives of the Mckee family. Margaret was my grandmother. Her mother was Agnes Mckee, who lived into her 80,s, possibly 90,s. John Mckee was her father. They had 3 daughters, Annie Mckee born in 1901, Margaret born in 1906, Catherine born in 1911. I cant find information on Annie, except 1901 census. Catherine had a baby in 1927, Henry Dobbin. Her husband of the same name died in 1927. She remarried again to a Thomas Bailie in 1936. She was listed as Kathleen Dobbin. They were members of Crumlin Presbyterian church. My father was born in 1931, whilst Margaret was living in Toronto. She brought him back here aged 3 months. She then had, Francis James in 1938 and Heather Ann in 1946. I have regular contact with Francis's children and I know Heather lives in Scotland but I am sure there are living relatives out there, as Agnes seemed to come from a big family. It has taken me over 30 years to find this much, as my father never spoke of his family. If anyone can fill in some blanks in my family tree, I would be grateful. :-D

I have found Annie's birth certificate. She was born on 30 May 1899.

edit - you referred to the 1901 census so you do have that info but I don't know whether you have the 1911, and anyone wanting to try to find descendants of Margaret/Maggie's siblings would need their names.

So that last list seems to be the mother and siblings of Agnes.

Agnes and John married in 1902, so I am guessing he was not Annie's father.

Agnes's mother Margaret was shown as married in 1901 and widowed in 1911.

I wonder whether this was Agnes's father in 1901, the only other McKee in Camlin.

The last one in the list, George 1879, seems to have been living in Shankhill in 1901 with parents Catherine and John:

Agnes father is listed as Thomas McKee (labourer) on Agnes marriage in 1902

It seems her parents were Thomas Mckee and Margaret Bradley.

Jooniecloonie, I had very messaged these people today, thank you for that. It's all a bit complicated, Margaret Mckee mother was Agnes and her mother was also Margaret. I am perplexed where Annie went, as there is no death registered for her. There is an Annie living with another family in Crumlin on 1911 census, who is around the correct age.

Do you mean an Annie with a different surname? I don't see an Annie McKee.

It's entirely possible that John rejected Agnes's daughter from before her marriage, when they married. But Annie would most likely have stayed with her grandmother Margaret.

So that's all going a little far afield ... I was hoping for descendants of Robert McKee, but none found so far.

But -- Otto Cecil Freestone, born 1903 Pembina County, died Saskatchewan, is in three family trees (that I can't view at the moment) at Ancestry.

Another tree has Beatrice Freestone, born Grey County, died San Diego, married to Robert McKee.

Two of the trees with Otto have Beatrice with husband Hicks.

Despite the Robert's marriage to Beatrice stating that he hadn't been previously married a tree on Ancestry has Robert married to Ellen Lindsey in 1909. It states that Robert and his wife Ellen both died in Ontario- Robert in 1953 and Ellen in 1955. The tree has photos of both Robert and Ellen.

Yikes, so Robert married Beatrice Freestone in Ohio in 1930 while first wife Ellen was still living?

I mean ... the age and parents' names in the 1930 Ohio marriage are unmistakably correct.

I wonder whether this is why there do not seem to be any records of Robert and Beatrice, e.g. in the 1930 and 1940 US censuses. And she was able to remarry based on bigamy.

AustinQ, I'm waiting until my next credit card billing cycle to switch accounts and pick up the cheapo Ancestry sub again. Can you see the trees I mentioned, where Robert and Beatrice appear together, and whether they have any explanation of the multiple marriages?

Does the tree say where in Ontario Robert and Ellen died? With the name Robert McKee being so common, that's a big factor for searching the 1921 census and the Canada voters' list, and for graves.

At the moment, I don't see a Robert McKee in the 1921 Canada census (free database) to match him.

Wow this is all very enlightening. Lots of Canada involvement. We have bigamy, illegitimate children, false names. What will turn up next! :-)
