Help in finding adoption file please

A close relative born in 1945 , adopted in 1948. He has his original birth certificate naming his mother's husband as his father. This is known to be wrong. He also has a copy of his certificate of adoption. This shows the court dealing with it as Chelsea Juvenile Court. Advice on how we go about finding his file would be appreciated. We hope there might be information in there regarding his father. Thank you for any help.

Try contacting Kensington & Chelsea borough council to see if they have his file.If its the wrong department, they ought to be able to point him towards the correct one.

if his mothers husband is named on his birth certificate as he,s father then he would not be able to find who his real father was unless he's mother would tell him

I think Christine is hoping that when the adoption took place that the mother then named the person who actually WAS the father so this could be added to the file.

When a married woman registered the birth of her child in those days it was assumed that her husband was the father, unless the "real" father accompanied her to the register office and signed a declaration admitting paternity.

only the adoptee though can apply for the adoption file

He ( the adoptee) should apply to hs local social service post adoption dept. They should be able to source his file from wherever it is stored, and will invite him for the statutory councelling, given the time frame in which he was born
