My cousin - Robin Patrick Edwards

Google finds anything on the internet, at least things from places where there is some traffic.

(Google "crawls" the net constantly, caching (saving) the pages it encounters.)

I have added a note to the other thread -- your thread itself is not appearing in google search results yet, but the current version of "Find Living Relatives" shows the subject line and first line and it is in the results.

That page gets outdated quickly, of course, and google doesn't necessarily keep up, so I put the link to this thread in Robin's thread, in case your own thread doesn't eventually show up in results.

I have made a note of all of your suggestions and will keep trying. I don't understand why a GR thread/message would be listed on Google especially after 5 years. Obviously I have a lot to learn but now I have had some help I will keep going with the search. My mother gave me a lot of information to pass on, before she died, if I was ever able to contact my cousin. Thanks again to all for your help.

Clever Nyx. And I was momentarily eager when I saw a Robin Patrick ___, chartered surveyor, in my google search results, but he is a decade too young. :-(

Another Robin P also came up, but again, there are two births to match that name, and two marriages to match the birth dates.

Since Robin was retired by 2012, there might be no remaining info on line.

It might be that a child adopted at that age kept his first given name, but was given a different or additional middle name ...

This is the professional body for chartered surveyors

https://www.rics.org/uk/

... there would be no harm in sending a request. Since it's possible that he still has his given name, it would be for a Robin born in 1945 who was retired by 2012, and asking whether, if there was such a member, a message could be passed to him. Very very long shot of course.

I think that's a good idea Joonie,

The other thing I noted from his thread was that he last saw his mother 1948 when he was 3 ish? That might suggest he was not adopted at that point, so may have kept his first names even if surname was changed later ?

(What I meant was: if you let your paid subscription lapse but leave your account intact with a current email address, if someone messages you, you can reply even if not paid up.)

Too bad that this still means no reply to your messages to him.

Try googling his name as I did, in a week or so, and see whether your thread here shows up. If not -- what google picks up from here can be a bit random, but generally speaking it does -- I might break my own rule and say post it again (with a link to here). ;)

I do see that you haven't added a post to Robin's thread, and I would still do that, again, in case he googles his name. If he does find these posts, and can still access his account (maybe with help from GR), he would be able to reply to the messages you have sent.

I wonder whether chartered building surveyors have a newsletter you could put a notice in ......

Thank you for all the information - I am a paid up member - the account number I messaged is the correct one - 12936714. Maybe he has given up on family history for the time being - I must admit that I have phases as sometimes it is so frustrating! Thanks again.

Josephine - always google!

On an internet search for "Robin Patrick Edwards"

https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/living_relatives/thread/1315230

He posted at this site in 2012.
( I'm assuming you hadn't seen that :-) )

Add a message to the thread in case he is 'watching' it (which gets email notifications -- do that for both threads yourself, too).

And his account connected with that posting is the one you want to contact-- it's the third Robin in the results list I get in search trees here. You can tell by the account number whether that is the Robin you messaged, where it says 'yes' or 'no' for 'prior contact'.

Send a message via the link in the message thread, if that is not the Robin you previously sent a message to.

If the message is not received, your own message here should show up on an internet search before long as well -- so be sure to keep the email address in your account current!! in case he does the same search.

(Even if you are not a paid-up member, you can reply to private messages you receive.)

Unfortunately the three accounts held by 'Robin' might not all be the same Robin -- there were 4 Robins registered in 1945, two of whom are also in trees here, + 3 in the first quarter of 1946.

One of the 'Robin' accounts shows a place of birth of Gravesend, which doesn't actually match any 1945 birth registrations ... does match a mid-1946 registration.

Josephine, you might put the place of birth in your own tree, just for the info of anyone else who searches for him.

I didn't realise there were 3 accounts in his name. I will try and access the others. I believe he may have been adopted in the Bristol area.

The messages haven't been opened so maybe he has changed his email address. He was adopted so I am not aware of his present surname - Edwards was his birth name.Thank you for your reply - I will keep hoping.

There appear to be 3 accounts, different membership numbers have you tried them all?

birth 1945? any ideas on possible marriage location?

malyon

malyon Report 12 Feb 2018 20:41

what age would he be now did he marry?

Rambling

Rambling Report 12 Feb 2018 20:31

Can you work out by a process of elimination whether he has other family members listed on his tree, eg a wife's maiden name, or children that you might be able to find on electoral rolls or even Facebook?

Rambling

Rambling Report 12 Feb 2018 20:28

You should be able to tell roughly when he joined from his membership number, but it isn't really any indication as to whether he is still looking in. If he has changed his email since joining and not updated it with GR then he won't be receiving notification of messages.

Have the messages been opened? if so the envelope next to them will have gone in your 'sent' messages.

I have left a couple of messages for Robin. Found him on Genes Reunited recently - we have been looking for him for around 25 years - but he has not responded. Any ideas?
