Start by looking for accurate birth year and birthplace on freebmd

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Then look for her in 'search all member trees' - if anyone has a listing for her, send a message via GR, by clicking on 'find out more'

We’d need to go back a generation to work out your mother’s aunts & uncles. Jennifer would be the daughter of one of them.

Who were your maternal grandparents? Names, yob and grandmas maiden name?

Don’t forget that, during the war, pregnant women were being moved out of London to give birth. Jennifer’s birth reg, if it was during the hostilities, might be somewhere unexpected.

Do you know Dot's maiden name?

Presuming that Dot was Dorothy (and that might not be the case) there are quite a lot ofGeorge Smith/Dorothy marriages from 1940 onwards. Even though she lived in Kilburn, it's not necessarily where Jennifer was born or her parents married.

And lots of Jennifer or Jennifer plus another initial born say 1944-1946

Kilburn could possibly be in either Hendon or Willsden reg district.

Do you have an old address for them in Kilburn? You could then check electoral registers to get Dot's full name.

hi everyone
thanks again , ive trolled through george and dot marriages , even tried seeing if
maidens names of the Dorothy marrying Georges would match up on birth certificates for Jennifer but never any luck . my mum is pretty certain that jennifer was her name. i wish i had address of when they lived in kilburn , she remembers it was shoot uphill.
i might try looking for dots death certificate , that was the correct death certificate that was found for george her dad.
jennifer did have younger brother also called george b 1952-56.

ErikaH Report 29 Mar 2018 16:54

If you wish to pursue this with any certainty, you are probably going to have to fork out for certs..........unfortunately

George's death cert may prove useful, as the informant could be related and his or her details could be followed-up on.

Of course, it may be that George and 'Dot' weren't actually married (to each other) and any child registered in the mother's name only

Several members other than you have your mother in GR trees. Have you contacted them?
