I am trying to find "Pam Riley", the granddaughter of Jack Riley (1927 - 2008) who played Cricket at Enfield in Clayton Le Moors. She saw me on a local post board in 2012 but I only realised in 2015. Ah! I did respond but obviously it was a little too late. She said she does do the odd bit of google search on her grandad so hoping this catches her attention at some point.

I would love to get in contact because I am Jack Riley's great niece and the family lost contact years ago. Would be nice to know what happened and how they all are.

I did manage to reach Pam's uncle but so far - not Pam herself.

Kicking myself indeed that I missed you, do hope you and your family are well.

Kris

Pam is likely either from the Preston area or has connections there.

Welcome to the boards Krissy.

There are a number of GR members who have a Jack Riley b 1927in their trees - not necessarily all the same Jack though. Go to Search, top right of this page, then Search all members trees. Enter his name and year of birth. Matches will come up. You can then try to contact the tree holders, explaining why you're contacting them and see if any have the right Jack and may know of his children/grandchildren.

This is the "local post board" you refer to:

http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/f67/jack-riley-cricketer-67800.html

In your opening post here you said,
"I did respond but obviously it was a little too late."

What does that mean?
If you contacted her on the email address she provided, did she not reply?

EDIT:
No, sorry, I misread the posts - it's your own email address which is given.

I take it her uncle didn't know where she was?

Trying to figure out Pam's age, to maybe help find her on ER's.

Presumably Jack's marriage:

Marriages Mar 1952 (>99%)
RILEY Jack WOOLLEY Haslingden 10c 655
Woolley Minnie Riley Haslingden 10c 655

I don't see the son Philip's birth, but the daughters were probably born 1957 and 1964.

Thank you-

That is the correct local board link.
It is Jack's marriage to Minnie too.
It was my email address.

Will follow the advice and see if it helps :-)

I don't know Pam's surname. On the local board her username was "Pam Riley" but she is the daughter of one of Jack's daughters (presuming Pam has her father's surname and no idea if she married).

Do you know who the informant was on the death cert. of Jack? They may be able to tell you more.

We found out about Jack's death on Wikipedia though had assumed due to age that he likely had passed away. There is an obituary from Preston 2008 on the web for a lancashire newspaper; I left a little note and email there too. Lost contact when Jack's children were still children, etc (1950/60s).

Think Pam's surname is Melling. Christina is her mother.

Philip is on here. Does he not know where his sisters and niece are?

I've spoken to Philip twice - emailed and text. I think he was a little wary of me because of how I got his unregistered telephone number (a friend of a friend of a friend off that local board etc). I don't want to push him too much hence trying to get to Pam directly if possible. She seemed interested in the past from what she posted which is why it would be great to switch notes and have a little chin wag, see how they are etc :)

If you’re still in contact via email, try again but with all your contact details- phone number (land line if possible), mobile & postal address. Ask if he’d be able to contact Pam & pass them on.

Explain, yet again, how you are related to both him & to Pam. Mention the posting about Jack Riley.

He’s wise to be cautious but may be more co-operative if he knows where you are. Would a letter with a SAE help?
