A possible daughter of Thomas & Ellen was born in Maryhill in 1955 - Helen.

She was the only Clarke born in Maryhill 1950-71.

She may perhaps have married James Douglas in 1979 in Maryhill.

It is difficult to find some information. At the minute, I know there are only 2 left in the Clarke family to have descendants and that is Mary born in 1899. I nave no idea if she married or when she died. Thomas born 1914, I know he did marry in 1950 and without the mother's maiden name, I cannot find children. Thomas died 1965 and if there were children, Ellen would be left to bring them up herself.

ArgyllGran Report 27 Apr 2019 12:03

Unfortunately Clark(e) is a very common name, and as you'll know, it's not possible to include mother's maiden surname as a search term on SP to narrow down births after 1854.

As the seventh child was not alive in a census year, there is no way to find out the child's name without buying all birth certs in Maryhill 1897-1911 - if that's where the child would have been born.
Were the other children all born in Maryhill?

Also unfortunately, although mother's maiden surname is gradually being added to Scottish death records (which will be invaluable) it hasn't yet been done for the period in question - 1897-1911.

They may have counted a still birth as one of the lost children? But there would be no cert.

I have all the birth certs and death certs. I have the 1911 census and it says 7 children, 3 living. Mary, Annie and Katie. I have the death certs for Margaret, Martha and Fanny. There is still a child missing. Thomas and Ann married 1897. I have checked for births from 1897. I have purchased a few certs that was not the correct ones.
I have Katie's (Catherine) birth and death cert. she did not marry.
I have Annie's birth cert and death cert, she did not marry
I have Mary's birth cert but not her death cert. I don't know if Mary did marry.
I have Thomas's birth , marriage and death certs. I don't have anything for his wife Ellen. I don't know if they had any children.

You need the Scotland's People site to find their 1911 census and view fully. Have found these on the same reference number, by manipulating the site, but can't see more without using credits to confirm whether your family or not. Is this your family?

You need to register with the site and then you can buy credits - £7.50 for 30. Free to do below search, 6 credits would buy you a look at the full 1911 census and would say how many children born and how many still living and how many died at that point. Would that match how many you've named and believe to be dead?

You say in your OP 7 born by 1911 but have only named 6

CLARK THOMAS 1911 M 40 644/14 28/ 2 Maryhill Lanark

Aspen Report 26 Apr 2019 20:57

I'm looking for information on the family of Thomas Clarke and Ann Herron. They lived in Maryhill. Both Thomas and Ann came from Donegal. Clarke was spelt as Clark at times.
I know they has 7 children by 1911, but only 3 living.
Mary 1899-
Margaret 1901-1904
Annie 1903-1985 not married
Catherine 1905-1979 not married
Martha 1907-1907
Fanny 1909-1909
Thomas 1914-1965 Thomas married Ellen Coyle in Donegal 1950. Thomas died 2 Cowal Street Glasgow. Ellen was present at death. I don't know if they had children. I did think Helen Clarke born 1955 might have been their daughter and sent for the cert to find not so.
I am unable to find one of the deceased children before 1911. I can't find anything for Mary born 1899. I did send for a death cert for Mary McBride as her mother's maiden name was Herron. Wrong Mary.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Regards
