Ancestry suggests that Mrs Paynter, nee Poynter, was born Griffiths in Essex 1946 - mms Hughes.


I can't see any Griffiths/Poynter connection - and in any case 1946 doesn't fit with the age suggested for Mrs Paynter on the ER 2002-5 - but it's interesting that Ancestry should pick on the name Griffiths.

Does anyone know - when an age is given on the ER, is that the age in 2019 (or whenever one looks at it), or the age when the person was last recorded at the address?

My dad when alive had told me he was with a sheila but I was given on gr by someone who see record marriage sheila Griffiths to george poynter and had michelle k poynter I appreciate all your help and il send letters to addresses I already have from you all x

I have asked Caris where she obtained the legacy file she sent me 4 years ago, as there are some mistakes on it I wouldn't be sure of its accuracy. No reply as yet

I can't see where the Sheila Griffiths comes from without someone having had access to Michelle's birth cert ?? There are no dates listed on the file so no idea where or when Sheila was born to follow through.

Just a thought but have you seen the actual birth cert to confirm the parents names

As there isn’t a Poynter Griffiths marriage how do you know the mum was a Sheila

ArgyllGran, that does appear to be relevant as the two Paynter directors on listing with Michelle, are Brian Paynter and wife, who was Poynter, married 1995.

Wife appears at same current address as given for Michelle, which perhaps suggests that this Michelle was her daughter from a previous marriage, I can't see a record of that but it could just as easily be out of England /Wales.

Interestingly (but maybe not relevant) -
looking further into the companiescheck.co.uk link provided by Rose, other directors of the company Michelle was associated with for a while are named Paynter.

Such a similar name is probably just coincidence.

But, looking at one of their names on the GR ERs, it gives the address for 1998-2019 (same dates as Michelle) as the same one the Flishers are now at, and where Michelle was listed through Companies House.
But looking at them on 192.com, there's no date, and the info is just from Companies House, just as for Michelle.

Look like it was just a business address for a while.

Re the Cambridgeshire address mentioned by Shirley -

The ER on GR gives the dates of residence as 1998-2019.

However, on 192.com, it doesn't give any date of residence, and says the info is from Companies House.

Three other people associated with that address, per 192.com, are named Flisher, and there are dates given for them.
Two of them were there 2002-12, 2004-19. The third person's dates are 2009-2013.

Looking up the Flisher names on the GR ERs shows them at the same address, but Michelle isn't listed with them.

My guess is that Michelle doesn't live there, and has maybe only been associated with the address for business reasons at some time in the past.


That address was last sold in 1996.

I think if someone phoned me up out of the blue and asked if I was the daughter of A and B, I would be very suspicious and disinclined to give any information.

A letter is always preferable in cases like this. A letter gives the recipient the chance to think about it for a while, maybe ask other people's opinions, and maybe check out your address to see if you are a real person at a real address.

And in 2019 when she appears to be unmarried and living in Cambridgeshire

Caris, who gave you the file that had Sheila Griffiths as mother? They must have been closely related to know the first name of Michelle's mother as that would only show on the birth cert.

There are several marriages in Surrey for a Sheila Griffiths in the 1980s (assuming she was still in Surrey), so as I've said Michelle might not have kept the name Poynter.

Or as Argyll Gran says you may have found the right one, but she was not sure or just doesn't want to know.

If the Michelle K Poynter who married Kevin C Scott and who lives in Milton Keynes isn't your Michelle, I don't see who else she can be.

I can't see a marriage of a Michael Poynter to a Michelle.

Nor do I see the birth of any other Michelle K Poynter.

Unless Kevin married it's likely any children he may have had would be registered in their mother's name. The only way you're going to find out is to write to the address and see if it's the right one first.

As far as Michelle goes, there is no obvious marriage, and as said her name may have changed if her mother remarried.

Judith doesn't have a middle initial on the most likely birth for her either.

That may not be correct.
That couple may have been living in Leatherhead, Surrey in 2002 - in which case Judith Shaw had middle initial C.

Judith Laing had no middle initial at marriage - though of course that doesn't necessarily mean it's not her.

I have sent Caris an address for a 'possible' Kevin Billington in Surrey, living alone and possibly likely circumstances. No middle initial on entry but worth writing to I think.

Argyll Gran, on the info Caris sent me 4 years ago, Maureen has middle name Anne, how accurate all of it is I can't say given that it includes "marriages" that don't appear to have taken place. I couldn't see a marriage for her.

There's a 1972 marriage in Sutton reg district (which includes Beddington) of a Judith Poynter and a David R Shaw.

It's only speculation, but -
that could perhaps fit with Michelle's birth with mms Griffiths in 1972, if George and Judith had separated between 1965 and 1971, and George had then had a relationship with Sheila - as already said, there's no sign of a marriage..

Maureen's middle initial on her birth record is A. Does that mean she is now using her middle name?

I don't see the marriage of an Ann or Maureen Poynter to a Mr Ball.
Does that mean she just decided to change her name, as Kevin did, without marriage being involved?
(Or maybe it's a very recent marriage, not showing online yet?)
