Ok,thanks.No.I mean I did received a lots of replies from other descendants from governors of Penang & Malacca.Captain Edward Pratt is newly to me.

I did some research and found out him .

Born in 1875.Son Of Edward Haslope Pratt & Mary Gertrude Burton of Shrewsbury.Edward Haslope Pratt married 1stly,Annie ?.Served in Malayan and Straits Settlements Civil Service.Took up an appointment as district judge,magistrate in Penang.Retired in 1929.He was known as Captain Pratt in Malaya.He returned to Malaya after his retirement in 1930 and joined the lawyer firm in Kuala Lumpur.He went back to England on June 1931.He married Dorothy Eleanor Clow,daughter of Sir George James Clow in 1911. .They lived at The Haven, Torpoint, Cornwall.

His siblings :-

i) Rev.George Edward Haslope Pratt (1862-1925) married Marion Francis Hill.


ii) Edith Gertrude Pratt(?-1943).Unmarried.


iii) Lily Marian Pratt (1877-1931).Unmarried.

iv) Robert Edward Burton Pratt(1882-1934) married Poppie Gwendollen Gard.

v) Dorothy S Pratt.

I do hope all his siblings names would be appear on search engines.

This post here on GR appears here on search engines - but only if someone searches specifically for "Captain Edward Pratt" or other combination of relevant words - which isn't very likely to happen.

The same would apply to a post on any other forum.

The helpers here on GR only saw your post because we look daily for any new threads on which to help.

If so, you must know if he had children or not, and what their names were/are.

Thanks for all these information.He retired to England for good in 1931.He has offered another judicial post in Malaya but he didn't return to Malaya anymore.

Yes,his wife.Dorothy who died in Nottingham or Isle of Man in 1959.

I posted a travel record from July 1931, which gives his occupation as "Malaya CS".

Do you mean he retired to England for good in 1931, or only that he went to England then but later returned to Kuala Lumpur (or wherever)?

Are you sure of his birth date? Where did you find that, please? Where was he born?

If you have the correct date, he doesn't seem to have been born in England.
Only two English birth registrations fit in with that date:

PRATT, EDWARD mmn BURGESS
GRO Reference: 1875 M Quarter in GREENWICH Volume 01D Page 923

PRATT, EDWARD mmn DOW
GRO Reference: 1875 M Quarter in WISBECH Volume 03B Page 600

The Greenwich one (presumably) was a wine merchant in Battersea in 1939, with wife Ada. Coincidentally, his DOB was 15 Feb 1875.

The other (born 14 Jan 1875) was an incapacitated widower in Norfolk in 1939. Definitely not Captain Edward, though - the Norfolk man married Charlotte Long in 1902 in Kings Lynn.


I suspect Dorothy and Eleanor didn't have children, but you never know what the 1939 Register might show if E&D were in the UK then.

You can't assume there were any descendants - not every couple produces offspring.

Ok,thanks.I have found his birth date as 15 Feb 1875.I'm a historian of who based in Penang,Malaysia.My hobby is collecting pictures of governors in Penang & Malacca.Captain Edward Pratt who acted an appoinment as district judge & 1st magistrate in 1923 Penang.He might be acting for the Resident Councillor in Penang for a few weeks or days.So he wasn't Edward Lancelot Knight Pratt who were born in 1872.

Actually I'm looking for a picture of him.But I don't know where can I find one.As I don't have any information about his descendants.

They seem to have spent their younger and potentially child-bearing years in Malaya, so IF they had any children they are likely to have been born abroad (ie - not in the UK), and so there will be no online records of any births for us to find.

there are no births on gro website and none mentioned on the travel records

Try to do some research yourself, Winson.

It doesn’t seem that you are in any way related, so what is your reason for asking for the info about this person and his family

Yes,you did find Captain Edward Pratt birth date as 1875 and FMS - Federated Malay States / Malayan C S - Malayan Civil Service.So these is the correct information for him.A word - Legal Adviser in Johore.Yes,he did took up the appointment as Legal Adviser in Johore Bharu.Plus name if his wife,Dorothy Eleanor Clow which I don't know her name too.

Can you please try to help out the information about his children?.

It's possible that Winson found the details about Captain Edward Pratt in a book
If it was a list of officials, I would have thought his middle intials would have been given, if he had any.
But that's just speculation.
