Why don’t you research the marriages and the offspring?

Thanks to both, that's what I thought.

My husband has done a DNA test on Ancestry and his nephew ( on his paternal side ) has just had his done and come up as a 'close match - 1st cousin'.

Thank you all. I know the names of only one of the subsequent marriages. This did identify one person as 1st or second cousin, who I know is my half first cousin . It would seem that the other side have not done any DNA tests. But I can be patient. :-)

Thanks again.

Can Ancestry actually distinguish nephews and nieces.? Non of mine have taken a test so I can’t tell. However, everyone, except for a sibling, is shown as a cousin.

Depends too if any of them or family have taken dna tests too

If someone has their tree on ancestry the results will also look for matching names in others trees

Plus too ancestry gets the connection wrong. I have some close matches wrongly described. One is one of my brothers sons is described as cousin not nephew

Ancestry would show this as a first or second cousin depending on the amount of cams matching.

I don’t think the companies can identify half cousins as matching depends entirely on the numerical amounts. It is down to you to (edited) research and see how your matches fit in if there is no tree attached.

Several of my matches are half cousins etc. It is possible that none of your closer relatives have yet taken a test.

If you know the names of children of the second marriages, not sure that DNA is necessary

DNA only works if there is a sample with which comparisons can be made. It is NOT a stand-alone

Hello Everyone, I have taken a 3 DNA tests but most of my matches come up as 3rd to 5th cousins which sounds quite distant. Does anyone know how a half cousin might be listed? My grandparents only had one child together but went on to have several other children with their subsequent spouses who could be my half aunts/uncles. Hope I am making sense here. Has anyone found a half cousin through a DNA website?

Thanks in advance for any info.
