I found a large photo of this man on Ebay. It is for sale in Canada.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW1-WWI-soldier-Hunter-Armstrong-RFA-family-Newbiggin-Newcastle-/263047477790?hash=item3d3ed9fa1e:g:CJUAAOSwd~RZOzPH

Hunter Armstrong survived WW1 and won a military medal for Bravery in the field.

I have put this on a Newbiggin remembered Facebook page in the hope that a direct family member sees it.

There is an obituary in BC that might match by age

http://obits.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/obit.cgi?Surname=armstrong%2Bthomas%22&type=Keyword&Start=100

ARMSTRONG, Thomas Hunter; 93; Victoria BC; Victoria T-C; 2002-1-26; zac
ARMSTRONG, Thomas Hunter; 93; Victoria BC; Victoria T-C; 2002-1-27; zac

aged 93 in 2002 = 1909 if born before 26 Jan.

Oddly, there were two births reg in that name in 1909 in Morpeth:

ARMSTRONG, THOMAS HUNTER mother ROBSON
1909 M Quarter in MORPETH Volume 10B Page 458
ARMSTRONG, THOMAS HUNTER mother HUNTER
1909 S Quarter in MORPETH Volume 10B Page 484

... he would be the first one, March quarter.

Death certs are not yet available on line for 2002 unfortunately.

http://search-collections.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Genealogy

The obituary was in the Victoria Times-Colonist:

http://www.timescolonist.com/

His is not available on line ... but there is this:

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/timescolonist/obituary.aspx?n=pauline-armstrong&pid=157447711

ARMSTRONG Pauline, died peacefully on July 28, 2003 in Victoria. She was born on June 2, 1911 in Beausejour, Manitoba and was pre- deceased by her first husband, Robert Munn and her second husband, Thomas Hunter Armstrong on January 22, 2002. ...
[names family members, some of whom have unusual names and could possibly be located e.g. through canada411.ca]

There is a link to the funeral home:

a record of her death is still at that site:

thanks greyghost ... better late than never to know that research has been duplicated.

If someone is advised to post on a different board then they should also be advised to give a link to the existing thread, so people aren't drawn into doing work that has already been done.
