Possibly his service records would show his Squadron number - from that you could work out what planes they flew.
If you can enlarge the photo, can you see if there are any other distinguishing features? Does he have descendants you could ask?

As WW2 records are still with the MOD, you'd have to pay £30 for a copy to be sent to you. Here's the link.

I have come across a photograph of my great uncle Jack who was born in Glasgow and it shows him in RAF uniform with a wing...my Mum his neice said he flew spitfires how would I go about researching this ?
