I am trying to find out about the military record of my husbands grandfather Ian Robert Emslie. He was born in Yorkshire in 1899 and died there in 1961. I know that he served in the Great War but that's as far as my knowledge goes. I would be truly grateful for any information anyone could give me. Thank you.

Different version of the above

British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920
Robert Emslie
Regiment or Corps: Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment
Regimental Number: 34849

Awarded the British & Victory Medals.

As he wasn’t awarded the 14 or 15 Star, it would imply that either he didn’t serve in a Theatre of War, or that it was from Jan 1916 onwards.
......

In case you were unaware, something like 70% of full service records were destroyed during WW2 bombing.

Alternatives for Robert - there are no Ian’s.

Robert Emslie
Regiment or Corps: Machine Gun Corps
Regimental Number: 42471
(Victory & British medals)

Robert Emslie
Regiment or Corps: Royal Engineers
Regimental Number: 95335
(Victory & British medals)

Robert Hemsley
Regiment or Corps: Royal Field Artillery
Regimental Number: 40770
Probably not him as the image says Disc (deceased). Entered a theatre of war, France, 31/8/15

Less likely are a couple of others who served in a Scottish or London regiment.
