thank you ArgylGran that's an interesting point

On the 1911 census for Ella, her name is on the 4th line, and the first three lines are blank.
She has also been listed as Daughter-in-law at first, which has been scored out and "Head" substituted

That seems to indicate that she was living with her in-laws, and was expecting their names to be on the first three lines, above hers.

And then - they moved elsewhere before the census date and left her living alone??

There is no budget I'm afraid, it is a voluntary project on my part.
Please people don't waste your valuable time.

I will just list the information I can find in the Remembrance and if some have more detail than others so be it.

Many thanks everyone for your help it is much appreciated. I may dare to come back with another of my brick walls..

Unless you can persuade someone to give you a budget, I can’t see a way to get the MC & his occupation for free.

A poor transcription aside, the reasons for being absent from a census could be
- abroad
- at sea
- in the military posted abroad
- the child of a service family resident abroad.

Thank you Greyghost I didn;t have that level of detail on the birth.

My starting point was the name on the memorial which is Gustavus Coyne so I have followed it through from there.

I am not a super experienced genealogist just an enthusiastic amateur who perhaps volunteered for a task which was biting off a lot ore than I could chew!

Please don't spend more valuable time on this (I have spent days)
I just posted in the vain hope that someone might have an idea of where else to look.

I feel suitably chastised for my lack of detailed posting and should I post another request I will post all the info I have! :-D

Thanks everyone for your input.

Hi Greyghost

I did notice he enlisted in Wales and haven't had any luck finding him there so far.

i don't have certificates for any of the veterans I am researching. As I said theree are 31 of them and it would prove too expensive for me to purchase them.

I am trying to put together a book of Remembrance to honour those , on the church memorial, who made the ultimate sacrifice

greyghost Report 29 Nov 2018 18:14

Did you notice he joined up in Wales? Could he be there?

Was he going by Gustavus or Patrick?

Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate to see what his occupation was - it may have been one that took him away from home. It would also name his Father if he knew him.

Thank you for that Greyghost - can you think of any reason he wouldn't show on any census since his birth?

I have to admit I am stumped and as I am researching 31 veterans my brain is a bit numb now I am down to the last 3/4 difficult to find ones
