tried my local library for a search but said it would cost £8.00 with no guarantee that it would be found.

World Catalogue isn't foolproof, unfortunately.

I've just checked with the titles of two of the books I have on loan from my local library at present, and World Catalogue doesn't show either of them being there.

The library is on World Catalogue's list of libraries, and the books are on the library's own online catalogue.

Greyghost, I have done that on occasion, but if you check on World Catalogue (a great site which tells you where any book is) it says that there is only one copy in a library--in Stockholm!!! Which it tells me, helpfully, is 859 miles away.

Ask your library to check on their system if the book is held by any other library. Have done that several times locally.

If the book is held anywhere they should be able to get hold of it for you. Think it cost me a quid when it came from out of County, otherwise free.

Popular books come to you in turn if other people are after the same one and if others are after you in a queue, then I think you could only have it for a maximum of 2 sessions of ? 3 weeks at the time..

thanks Detective but still a little expensive for me

A seller on Amazon has a copy for £24.05 + £2.80 p&p. That seems to be the cheapest around. Click on the ‘see 5 all formats & editions’ then light blue £24.05.

You could probably read it within the British Library, but the cost for you to get there would be greater than the price of the book!
