Initially a Private with the 28th London Regiment and then Seaforth Highlanders as a 2nd Lieutenant and then to the Royal Flying Corps.

Commissioned 4.12.1915

RFC merged with the Royal Naval Air Service on 1.4.1918 to form the RAF

Awarded British and Victory Medals, also 1915 Star. Theatre of War first served in was France and he first entered there on 11.8.1915
Note on medal card says BW +V medals to be issued by the Air Ministry

Address on the Medal Card - Norwood, Larbert, Stirlingshire (probably related to a 1920 date on the card)

Richard Whyte, birth 20/05/1890 death 19/03/986 Married 1921 Lilian Mary Sibyl Smith. Lived in Andover Hampshire.
1917 to 1945. Seaforth Highlanders, Air Commodore in RAF. OBE 1945.

Richard’s father also called Richard Whyte. No information for Richard Whyte Senior other than he was given a writing box with the following inscription:-

RICHARD WHYTE, given by the teachers and scholars of Craigs School Stirling on his leaving for Edinburgh January 25th 1878

Any information greatly appreciated
