There is no query about the name change
the poster merely wants her brother’s service record, but unless she looks at the replies on here, she’ll never know how to get them

There's one Avinou/Jagger birth - 1949. It's also registered as Hepworth/Jagger.

Another Hepworth/Jagger birth in 1953. That one's not registered as Avinou.

So Peter's name change presumably some time after 1949 ?

Janice hasn't returned to her thread so is unlikely to see your kind offer

Hello Janice,
I may be able to look up a few names of men in DLI band as there are retired servicemen in my area who served in that regiment. I'll get back to you when I've made enquiries. I do know that they served in Germany and UK.

Was your brother born in Dewsbury? If so, his birth is in the indexes, but perhaps you meant that you couldn't find his name in military records.

As his death is so recent, you will almost certainly be expected to provide a copy of the death cert, and probably be asked to prove your entitlement.

Such recent army records are with the MOD, and not available online.

As you have posted on the Military Chat board, I assume that's what you're looking for?

You can apply for a copy of his record.
Instructions here:

https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

It will cost £30, and the records can take months to arrive.

My Brother who has just passed away was in the Durham Light Infantry, he went into the Army as a Boy and was there until about 1959 or 1960 when he was discharged on medical grounds. I think it would be around 1951 when he went into the army
He did play with the band at Kneller Hall and I know he was stationed in Germany at some stage before actually being medically discharged.
He was called Peter Hepworth when born in 1936, but had his name changed to Peter Avinou by Deed Poll when his Mother remarried and had two younger children, wishing them all to have the same surname. I can find no record of My BROTHER Peter under either name? Any Suggestions anyone?.
