Are these likely to be records from WW1 or WW2?
When was he born?

If WW2 (as I expect with the mention of Reykjavik), they are not available online, but if you have the right information you can order a copy here:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records

It will cost £30 and they may take months to arrive.

yes it is WW2 that I'm looking at. Joseph was born in 1914 in Birmingham. He has no middle name and is causing me quite a few problems in looking for him.in the family tree too. Ill try and find out some more information about his time in the RA.F Thanks for your help.ArgyllGran

You may be asked to provide a copy of his death cert, and to prove your entitlement to access his records

One assumes you know his exact DoB,which you will probably need to supply if you request his record

oh thanks for the info about death certificate, I think another family member has the certificates and it is this person who I am hoping will have more information but as they are elderly the memory isnt too good

If the WW2 Records are not available online - is it possible to actually view them in person and if so where?
