Kath, Thank you for the prompt reply and information. A trip to the National Archives isn't possible at the moment but possibly in the future. Looking at your info he was only enlisted if that's the word, for 5 months. Why so long (6 years) for disciplinary action or would he have only just been found in 1879?
Thanks again

Kath Duh. my maths is appalling . It should be 8 years lol.

ArgyllGran Report 26 Apr 2022 12:18

There are 7 transcriptions of the 8 Nov 1879 desertion record on Ancestry, with different publication dates in 1879:

Nov 21, 24, 26, 28, and Dec 1, 3 , 8

The original records are all viewable on Fold3, if anyone has a sub to that.

Or you can get a 7-day free trial to Fold3 - follow the links from the Ancestry page with Jesse's record.
Just remember to cancel before the 7 days are up, or they'll charge you a year's subscription.

Hi ArgyllGran apologies for not replying sooner, I ticked for notifications but haven't received any.
Thank you so much for this information. I will look to viewing Fold3.

I'm afraid GR doesn't notify you of new replies on your thread.
I know that in theory it does - but it doesn't.

You have to keep checking.
