Find Ancestors

My great great great Grandfather John Pugmire (b. c 1835) exists as a widower living with his daughter Mary A Small and her family in the 1901 census.

However i can't find any evidence of his 'own' family where he is Head of the family in any other census - could somebody look him up for me and see if I'm going wrong somewhere please?
