My ggrandfather, David Hatelie, was born in Montreal but came over to England at some point and married in Devonport. |

It is very unusual spelt that way Ann but you have no idea how difficult it is to find any records on him. |

Thanks AoGG, but as far as I know none of these connect with them. According to census records, David was born in Montreal and the Scottish Hatelies appear to have gone to Canada where they were farmers! Nothing to do with the army at all and I have no idea if his father was Canadian or over in Canada with the army for whatever reason. I'm totally baffled. |

Why not try getting hold of his dad's army? / marines? records. They'ld be handy to have anyway, and might shed some light on son David's childhood. |
