Hi

I am trying to trace the Edler family. I am fairly sure that my great grandfather George Edler was born on 30/10/1856 and that the 1881 cenus gives his birth place as Whitehaven Cumberland (note the transcription on the census is Edles not Edler). I have not been able to find his birth registration on BMD despite using lots of wildcards. I know from his marriage certificate that his father's name was John and the he was deceased at the time of George's marriage on 19/3/1882 in Liverpool.

Any help you can provide would be great.

Yes, you have the right family. I already have quite a lot of info on the Edlers1881 onwards. What I am trying to find is George's birth registration so I can get his birth certificate and trace the family back.

On the 91 census the name is Elder. George was born 1858, Whitehaven, Cumberland.

Unfortunately I can't find him or his family on either the 1861 or 1871 census which might give me a clue to the family possibly moving shortly after his birth so that the birth registration may not be Whitehaven.
