Hi Bonnie Which census have you looked for him on? There isn't a British Census, England Ireland Scotland and Wales all have their own. If William remained in Scotland then you need to be looking on the Scottish Census, at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. If he was born in 1848 then looking for him on the 1841 will be pointless, he wasn't born. Sam x

I've never heard of a place called Scottow in Scotland.......are you sure about your info? Reg

Thats what I thought as soon as I saw Scottow, its def a village in Norfolk. In fact the name Cossey is derived from Costessey, (pronounced Cossey) another village in Norfolk? Who told you he was from Scotland?

If he is the right chap he appears on earlier census details with correct spelling of COSSEY. As a bonus if you search the family tree's on this website you'll see there are 2 ladies tracing this family.

Thanks to all who replied. I think Scottow Norfolk sounds like the likely place. I was told that one of my Great Grandfathers came from Scotland so I tried Cossey first. Thanks again for the tips. Bonnie.
