Hello, My greatgrandfather was a widower when he married his second wife Eliza Brown Symes on 08/09/1868 at Offord Rd Chapel, Islington. William was born in 1837 in Colyton, Devon. Can anyone help please.

Hello, William Newbery's full name is William Granger Newbery and he was a carpenter. His parents were William Newbery (a baker) born Southleigh, Devon and Sarah Granger b Broadhembury, Devon. I just don't know where to start looking for his deceased wife. Jean

Thank you all so much for taking the time and trouble to try to help. If anyone has any other ideas, I would very much appreciate hearing from them. I have tried looking up marriages at the Family records office but there were too many Wm Newberys but at least I now know that it must be between 1861 and Sep 1868. Thanks everyone.

To F C M Yes, you have got the right one. Eliza had a daughter Sarah Ann and a sister Elizabeth. I still don't know the name of his first wife., but I will try looking in Dorset for the marriage. At least it gives me a starting point. I had looked in Islington and Devon but Dorset could be the place to look.I am sure that there weren't any children from the 1st marriage because they are not with the family later on. Jean
