would it be possible to put on peoples profiles how long it is since they last logged in? i send lots of messages and am lucky if i get 1 or 2 replies. it would save valuable research time if i knew someone hadn't logged in for so many months.

it might also be a good idea that profile and tree details became invisible to searches after 6 months. it is very frustrating to think you might have found a connection to not get a response.

thanks.

Don't worry Ambersmum I don't think that was a criticism from Rose, just pointing you to where you can read the opinions of others and see that you are not alone.

Nooo wasn't a criticism lol, just easier to post the link than repeating what has already been said :-D

oh it's ok, i didn't take it as a criticism!!! just fed up with sending a lot of messages and not receiving many, if any, replies.

This is something that I have proposed on a number of occasions. I.e to show the last time that a member made some sort of update to the site. This could be a log-in, board posting, PM to another member or update to their tree, etc, etc. Anything that caused an action on the site.

On the other hand, making profiles / trees invisible after a period is a great big no no. The biggest majority of GR members probably fall into this category and apart from the fact that GR would never consider it, a message from you might just be the catalyst for them to log back in to the dite.

IGP

I never log out

I send perhaps 1 pm every 2 or 3 weeks

I have not updated my tree in several years

I do post regularfly on the baords ........ as anyone can see by looking to the left of my posting

BUT I also go away for weeks at a time ........... the records will show me logged in, the profile notes will show that I have made thousands of postings, the tree will not have been updated. But I'm not here.

Ambersmum .................. have you checked your sent messages to see whether the other member has opened the pm?

A sent message is purple

It turns pale green when opened

A dark green arrow is added when the pm has been answered.

Sylvia, no system is fool proof but this has much going for it.

What it would do is to show just the last i.e. the most recent action you have taken on the site.

The fact that you might never log out, not have not updated your tree for some time, made 1001 postings in the past year, sent 3 pms in the past month doesn't, in itself, matter.

We know that GR keep member event logs as they can be viewed for any of your contacts so it shouldn't be too hard to display the most recent one against a members profile.

Ambersmum Report 27 Aug 2011 18:17

hi again, yes i do check my sent messages and most remain purple suggesting that people haven't updated their e-mail or just don't bother to log in when they recieve contact messages from genes. of the ones that have been read i'm assuming there is no match but the tree owners don't bother to send a quick message saying so.

however, i have had a message replied to today that has gained my tree an extra 70 relatives!!!!! days like this make up for the being ignored lol.

Why delete your comments Pigletspal?

There is nothing worse than returning to an old thread for whatever reason and finding posts missing, thats why I have made a point of mentioning your name so it does'nt look like I am talking to myself again, when you decide it has been here long enough.

I know it is off topic, but I do like your last sentence, PP **

Sometimes I just think there is a bit to much "though shalt do this, though shalt not do that", which is absolutely nothing to do with the rules of the site nor even the guidelines for using the message boards.

Edit
** in your now deleted posting......!

Which does'nt surprise me that they have gone :-D :-D

This comment IGP?

"My comments, my computer, my ball and I will take it back when I want "

seems a waste of time saying anything at all then, if it will self distruct after 3 or 4 days :-D

I guess the answer, so that threads continue to make sense, is to copy and paste Piglets Pals comments into any responses as a quote

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 8 Sep 2011 20:37

Copy and pasting comments and then repeating them to prove a point is just as bad.

It reminds me of a DJ in Liverpool who had a saying

"I used to be a parrot, but I'm all right now"

Getting back to the original problem, the proposal is for an enhancement to show the most recent activity time stamp against a members profile.

NAH, it just helps to stop my response to the other person's missing response make me look an absolute idiot, pr**k, or trouble-maker

:-D :-D
