I use IE9 and the search function works OK for me.

SuffolkVera have you got Compatibility View set? If so that might explain why it doesn't work.

I haven't tried using any other browser because I feel GR should get it right for IE as that is supposed to be the most used browser. But, like you, I'm not going to get worked up about it. I hardly use my tree on here anyway - all the important stuff is on my own PC on Family Historian software. I just seems a shame that GR isn't working more efficiently for those members who are more reliant on it.

Strawberries and cream sound good but I'm going for a glass of wine :-D

Vera

If you use Firefox instead of IE9, it works.
But you should not have to change browsers simply because GR - after 8 Months have failed to fix the problem.

But I refuse to get annoyed so it's back to the Strawberries and Cream for me. :-D

Jeremy,
I've just this minute sent a query about this to the Support Desk via "Contact Us" as I can't get the Search My Tree function to work on the new tree either. I must admit I didn't think to mention what browser I'm using (IE9) but I await a reply with interest. In the meantime I shall carry on with the old tree.

JerryH Report 17 Jul 2012 20:27

Well you can't please everybody.
Personally, I prefer to have a list of Tree Owners.

I managed to send some feedback via the new tree yesterday -- a reminder that the Search My Tree function using IE8 did not work - and was surprised to receive an email from the Support Desk in reply. This for me is a first -every other time I have sent feedback via the tree link, I have been ignored (or so it seems).
As Alex Brett was asking for further information, I provided a much fuller reply- but when I came to send it.......... via the new tree feedback, it failed 5 times. I sent the rely via "Contact us" in the end as when I try to send as a normal email, it bounces.

Nothing new there then :-)

Mine seems to have gone back to tree owners names - whicih is lucky because I few months ago I went through them all & made a note of which family name was associated with each owners name.
Now, if only I could find where I hid that list................

I cannot send feedback either, keep getting error message as well.

The new tree has not been thought through and is dreadful. Why try to mend something that wasn't broke.

I might not renew if this farce goes ahead.

Paul, We have seen how this unprofessional approach has affected GR

you only need to see how experiences members and the newer members have been leaving in droves

inactivity on the boards are a good indicator although some of this inactivity has been replaced with members desperate for help because parts of the site either don't work for them or have errors

"With regard to testing, we are constantly evolving new functions and features, and it just is not possible to have beta test cycles"

Well, at least this answer from philmoir explains why the initial launch of the new tree was so shambolic as it was pretty much set up to fail. The excuse of constantly developing new features is extremely lame. I access lots of sites which innovate much, much more than Genesreunited and they manage to release regular beta tested new versions.

I am glad that he also commented that more beta testing is planned as using the entire membership for the beta test is about as unprofessional as you can get in IT and a surefire way to destroy your business.

I have access to a tree owned by a member who doesn't use a name. Instead of a name he/she has three occupations!

I won't use the real ones, but the three words are strung together - "carpenterbutcherpainter"

Taking hyphenated surnames to the extreme maybe?

Beverley - I often have problems sending feedback, get the error message :-P now I always copy the message before sending it.

BeverleyW Report 14 Jul 2012 21:53

Haha I think it's rather ironic that I typed out quite a long and detailed message for 'Report Feedback' - not all of it derogatory - and what happened?
After clicking 'Send' I got a pop-up 'Sorry, the tree is having trouble loading. You can try refreshing this page, alternatively cancel and try again'.

(I wasn't doing anything on my tree, I was simply sending feedback :-S )

Third time round, the message did manage to 'send'.

Hi, Just to let you know that someone on the team is reading through the issues being reported, although I haven't had too much time recently to get too involved in responding. The issues reported all seem quite valid, and with regard to the tree, I would recommend using the feedback option on the tree, as this is reviewed daily by the tree development team. With regard to Gedcom, GR have never provided full compatibility for importing all data. But it should not be converting data to any other format. These are bugs and should be reported in the usual way to support. But it is also worth posting Gedcom issues on the tree feedback, as the two are closely linked. The greater the amount of feedback on the tree feeback system the quicker the issues can get resolved. With regard to testing, we are constantly evolving new functions and features, and it just is not possible to have beta test cycles. although we are planning more of this in the future. Thanks again for the feedback. Phil (sorry for duplicating this post across threads)

testing testing 1 2 3 4

Maybe GR did the musical testing? If any.

I wonder if anyone in the GR technical team has a family tree?

The list of tree owners is still available on the OLD tree, which I will be using until it is withdrawn.

If the OLD tree is still here when my subs are due I will consider renewing. When the old tree goes, SO DO I!!

What suprises me is that profesional companies like (GR)( brighsolid )are supposed to be,
Have never use alpha and beta testing before a full launch of these New versions

or have i missed something

alpha testing
A very early version of a software product that may not contain all of the features that are planned for the final version. Typically, software goes through two stages of testing before it is considered finished. The first stage, called alpha testing, is often performed only by users within the organization developing the software. The second stage, called beta
testing , generally involves a limited number of external users

beta testing
A test for a computer product prior to commercial release. Beta testing is the last stage of testing, and normally can involve sending the product to beta test sites outside the company for real-world exposure or offering the product for a free trial download over the Internet. Beta testing is often preceded by a round of testing called alpha testing.

As I have commented elsewhere and in feedback, not showing the names of the owners of linked trees on the My tree page is a step backwards. I now view a tree not knowing whos tree I am looking at ! So when I spot a discrepancy or point which I disagree with - who do I contact to tell them ??????? A typical example of the choices I get when viewing other trees are View the Taylor tree or View the Taylor tree or View the Taylor tree. 3 entirely different people but who ? Was someone actually paid to create this farce ? :-S

I have had a look at the new family tree. I even entered some details but now if I look at my old tree or the list in the new tree I have duplicated people. I'm not going to enter anything else on my tree until it is fixed.

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 13 Jul 2012 01:41

GR

The New tree now has a list of Family Trees, where we used to have the name of the OWNER of the tree.

I find this absolutely useless! I have a list of many of the names of people whose trees I have access to, and which relatives of mine they are related to.

Why not both?

There is more than ONE surname on a tree - so how did the system choose one?

What name is on my tree? My father's? One of my grandfathers? Maybe my 12th great-grandfather? My husband's?
