Well at least that is a suggestion unlike most of the recent posts on this thread.

My suggestion is that Genes summarise the suggestions on this thread and say which ones they might implement.

Thought for today...

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

I agree that GR does have a lot going for it. I agree that all organisations have problems with this modern technology, but so many, and all at once?
Why did GR remove the old setup before this new setup was thoroughly and properly tested and all these problems sorted out?
Why do they say they have kept the things we asked for when so many of the features we used to have have gone?
May is crunch time. If all this is not sorted out I will not be renewing my subscription, and as a now extinct Gold Member I am sure GR will be very happy to see me go. I constantly get newsletters telling me all the new records I can access, only to find when I log in to check them out that Gold counts for nothing now and I have to get Platinum. (More expense :-( )

....that has never been the GR style - rather they keep us in the dark.........

Jeremy,

I agree with you, it has has a lot of good points, I only have one real criticism, and that is summed up in one word "COMMUNICATION"

I think it is diabolical that no one at Genes Reunited has come to the Announcement Board and admitted there are problems and told us what they are and what they are doing to fix them.

Problems occur in all organisations, especially with modern technology. Most people will normally accept there are problems if they are told about them and know what is being done to resolve them and when they can expect them to be fixed.

Maybe that is asking to much

I admire your optimism.

And Pigs might fly..... :-D :-D

But don't think that any of the other sites are necessarily any better.

I know we moan when things are not quite as we would want but actually GR has a lot going for it... and it has recently shown its willingness to tackle some of the issues.

We might see an announcement, and maybe a space ship from Mars will land in Trafalgar Square today ;-)

The last post on the Announcement Board, which is where I would hold we should be kept informed about these things, was on 02 January 2013 and that was to say:-

"Hello everyone, we are really sorry that you have been experiencing problems with the tree again. We have been having problems with one of our servers, which has overloaded and caused the error message. This has now been fixed and you should be able to use the tree again"

Have you noticed that Genes have just updated the tree software?

It is now running 3.3.4

I am not sure what has changed or what new "features" have been introduced though. Perhaps we might see an anouncement so that we know what to look out for?

Morning Jeremy,

Too many problems are occurring on a daily basis on here for me, they are beginning to stress this old guy out, and stress is something I need to avoid.

On the subject of a right way and a wrong way to do things, I won't say which of those Genes Reunited seem to opt for :-(

I have managed to export my tree this morning, OK I may lose some attachments etc, but going to look for a reliable and good tree site to use, preferably a free site.

I do this reluctantly as this site does have some good features but alas the tree is not one of them :-(

Regards,

James

James
I have noticed that too.
There does seem to be a right way and a wrong way to do things.

I spent about an hour trying to resolve one such and I finally succeeded after having deleted both parents and putting them back.
This only happened the once and I cannot remember now all the moves I tried and rejected before I finally got it to work properly

Hi Martin,

I have just added a father and mother for someone on my tree and when I went to add the date and details of the marriage it has two blank marriage boxes before the boxes/sections for the marriage I wanted to add the details for, plus there are two boxes/sections for the marriage I want to add the details for, they were never there before :-S

They seem to fix one problem and in doing so create another :-(

Martin Report 8 Jan 2013 10:21

Tree is working again (and fast as well) but now when you add a father or mother for someone on your tree it adds 2 blank marriage boxes before the spouse is even added. This never happened before and when the spouse is added they both remain. Will these be able to be deleted again or will this cause be a permanent problem?

I really want this tree to be working properly again instead of gremlins appearing!

Yet again, can't get into my tree. That's been far too often recently! This problem whatever it is really needs to be addressed and addressed soon.

Could we "like" other folks posts (like on other sites).

It'd be interesting to see what was liked most....

JerryH Report 2 Jan 2013 19:55

Oh Dear :-(

The tree was working fine for me until about 17:30 (UK time).

I was adding some new people and then things started to go haywire.
Would not save, locked out, error 404, tree load just hangs......
If I do get into the tree, the moment I try to navigate through it, I get an error.

Feels like there are just not enough servers to deal with demand.

What a shame. And I am in the process of adding more people to my tree today then I added in the whole of 2012 having just had a "breakthrough".

I too will be keen to export my Gedcom once I have finished making all the changes.
